Picture it....

Small country town Louisiana, 1990, a Korean boy's mother goes back to the homeland. Boy says, "Mom can you bring me back some Nikes, Pump Reebok, or any of the other clothes I want all the time but you will never buy? I know you are going to the big wholesale market for your business"

Two long weeks go by, all the while, the boy thinks he will be the coolest kid in all of school soon.

Mom gets back and brings a suitcase full of some weird arse brand of shoes with Korean script on side and sole of shoes (which didn't help his street cred as he was the only Asian at school), and about a lifetime's supply of the worlds ugliest socks in colors that no teenage boy should ever be seen in.

BTW-I never had a Starter Jacket

I had an LSU starter jacket. Kids at my school used to rib on me pretty hard for wearing LSU stuff in the mid 90s.

my parents were (and still are, they get terrible crap for my kids every year) shitty gift givers, but this is the one time they nailed it.

I had a Denver Nuggets Starter jacket as a kid. It was a XXL. I got it because it was on clearance. It was WAY too big.

Me too. My dad bought me Nautical once knowing damn well I wanted some Nautica. I was like "can you believe this shite mom?" we then bought me some Nauticas. Dad is the one who would buy me some Polo Assn or whatever that shite is now and try to pass it off as Polo.

yep, know the feeling. Back then i didnt understand how expensive stuff was, and how much money we didnt actually have. My dad worked 2 jobs, my mom was an assistant at the school. We didnt have much money then, but they always got me what i wanted, and never discussed money to me and that we couldnt afford it. Looking back now i can really appreciate what they did for me and sacraficed for me to have the best as a kid.
