A good friend of mine lived down the road from there also. It's a park now, and the house at the end of road is abandoned.

I don't mean the store on Siegen, I mean the sign on the vacant lot at Perkins and bluebonnet saying one was going to be built there. That sign must've been up 10 years...

It Sure was. It stood where CVS at Perkins Rowe is now. Future HOME Of Schwegmann's. It was a big arse yellow sign. Not like a normal Lamar but home-made big arse sign. Our bus passed it every day.

I remember that place. I had about a billion of those plastic alligator drinking bottles that came with the kids meals.

Luther's BBQ was good, too.

Florida and Ardenwood right? One on Sherwood too but I think that was second. Can't recall.

Remember Howard's Department Stores? Like a local T G & Y....damn the TG&Y on sherwood was a childhood thing too.

Mother worked at a restaurant called the Donmoor Seafood Restaurant. It was in mall city which was not mall city then, it was a very nice area. Played in that area as a kid too, some industrial buildings back there, I'd throw the tennis ball against the wall and run all over the hood.

We used to ride our bikes down Hooper road to the one in Central. I'd get in trouble whenever we got caught but it didn't really stop us

I remember most of NBR being nice. The only place we avoided was Scotlandville

Bowling alley(plank bowl i think), Tonys seafood, showbiz pizza, Redemptorist was a good school, fancy neighborhood with the christmas lights, 2010 etc. You could walk from plank bowl to tonys seafood and not worry about a thing. Well back behind bon marche wasnt too safe tho.

Broadmoor Theatre, the flea market next door, and dinner at Frostops was my Saturdays growing up.

Hanging out in Cortana or Bon Marche Malls was Friday nights.

Sundays was for church and Picadilly.

Its pretty much the same place just with a lot more people. The main difference is instead of north BR having all the stuff, it has all moved to south BR. Instead of people reinvesting in broadmoore, tara, sherwood forest, glenn oaks, and surrounding areas, people are moving to Livingston, Ascension, and Zachary leaving the old places run down and abandoned.

Wasn't there a place called New Generation? What was it like?

Here's my lasting memory of that place...

Back in 86', I went with my brother so he could buy Ratt's "Invasion of Your Privacy" and when we were leaving, a sheriff's deputy standing at the door patted us both down. I'd have thought it weird but he did the same thing to the people who left before and after us, so I assumed it was standard practice.

After that, Record Bar and Musicland in Cortana got all our business.

I rented my first DVD from Art Colley's around 1998. They were one of the few places in Baton Rouge where you could find them to rent. Its hard to believe I paid $500.00 for my first player that had an on board Dolby digital decoder.
