His point is that you said Titleist just stuck a 6 over the 4... so if the 714's have great distance and feel...

Bridgestone CB's with Recoil Protoype graphite

What exactly are you trying to say? I think you are confused.
I have a set of 716 ap2's and love them. While not the longest clubs compared to others, they are the best feeling clubs. I tried both the Mizuno mp25 and the ap2s. While the Mizuno was a couple yards longer, I did not get the same consistency as the ap2.

How? If you're gunna spend that much money on clubs you might as get the best option of the two. He's a 10 handicap not a 20+. He can easily play the 2's, they aren't as bad to hit as everyone thinks.
He also won't be a 10 forever, he should get progressively better. If he buys the 1's and gets to about a 5-7 handicap he's gunna want to switch to the better clubs anyway.

I was considering the AP1's now that I'm older and not as flexible as I used to be. The forgiveness would be a good thing. I like the look of the AP2's a little better but I think I'd probably get better results out of the 1's. Also, getting close to time to move from Stiff shafts to the regular flex. Getting old sucks.

How?
quote:Just because he can play them doesn't mean it's the best option. Do you have any idea how much money has been won with game improvement irons?

This is the same advice my buddy (scratch) is giving me. That its a misconception that Ap1's would hold me back from making the transition from a 10 down to a 5

The 2's are better. look, feel, and performance.
I understand your point about this guy debating on which ones to get, but there is no way you can convince me that the 2's are not absolutely better than the 1's.
I've hit both and both are really good clubs but the 2's have always been better.

Did you get fitted for these?
Where did you purchase them?
How much did they set you back?
Posted on 3/11/16 at 2:00 pm to ell_13
They stuck them on Spieth's irons to sell the 716's.

I'm saying the AP2 716's compared to the AP2 714's are crap. I was ready to buy the 716's until I hit them. And now I see why very few pros are playing with them.
Posted on 3/11/16 at 2:15 pm to Kevin Faulkner
Yea I feel ya. I was gonna roll with the 714's regardless based on price.

Unless you're a tour caliber player, you shouldn't buy Titleist, clubs or balls. They aren't designed for your abilities/limitations.

Well that one of the dumber things I've seen posted in a golf related thread. And thats really saying something considering BRGetthenet routinely posts in these things

No, it isn't. If you've ever worked for/in the golf industry you'd know that Titleist is the biggest con in all of sports retail.
Golf equipment technology is some of the most advanced in all of sport & done so with precision based upon abilities. Unless you're bring the club speed of a tour caliber player along with the control/ability, you'll never play to YOUR highest potential with their equipment. It's just simply not designed for that.
Just because you watch "Tour Player X" knock the ball dead on with an approach shot & backspin to within -3 feet of the cup, with ease does not ever mean that you'll be able to buy the same club & magically do it.
Titleist KNOWS this & that people with the money will buy whatever they see guys on TV playing with. So, they drive their prices up & rake it in. No fault on them at all-it's business, more power to them. However, it breeds poor golf play, compared to what golfers would experience with clubs tailored to their mortal abilities.
