I personally wouldn't spend $40K on a used SUV. For that kind of money I want something brand new.

A fully loaded 2017 Chevy Traverse Premier that has everything you are looking for plus lists for like $48 and chevy is right now offering 20% off MRSP on 2017 models without even negotiation.

Come at me with "Chevy builds junk" bros.

Every vehicle I buy from here on out in my lifetime will be a Toyota 4Runner 4x4.

Only some 4 Runners have third row seating, so be aware of that if you need third row. But obviously you aren't going to go wrong buying a 4 Runner.

Lexus GX460. If you could go up a bit more on your price-range, I would consider the LX 570/Landcruiser.

The new Nissan Armada is essentially the same vehicle for $15k less. Seems to be the new upper-middle-class soccer mom mobile of the moment. Routinely offered for $10k off sticker.

Best bang for the buck would be the Lexus GX as said before. I loved ours but the wife wanted bigger and we got the Yukon XL.

I love my escape. Its probably smaller than you want but it zips around and is easy to park.

I'm impressed. The OP actually includes 5 real SUVs and 0 minivans/crossovers.

Good work! Can't go wrong with a Tahoe IMO. If you want to spend more than that, go with a Land Cruiser. If you want to spend less than that, go with a 4Runner.

If you want true third row seat get the expedition.

The 2018 model Traverse actually looks pretty good for a crossover. It's getting very good reviews as well.

Not a fan of the 2017 model's styling.

Up your price to $50k and you can find a nice Toyota Land Cruiser that you'll be happy with. Also, you won't be driving what every other family on the block has.

Then be prepared to pay a premium.

I'll tell you , we're thinking of trading in the wife's Lexus and we want something a little bigger, we're looking at a Journey, my mom has had one since 2010 zero problems with it. My wife doesn't need AWD bc she doesn't drive in the snow period so we're looking at a 2018 Dodge Journey GT , priced right around $30 loaded with features, room for 7.

They look so much better now...might be the best looking of the bunch

Look into a VW Atlas.

We are going to be getting one early next year.

big thing would be do you have all of those dealerships around your hometown to be able to have them worked on when need be?

Outside of that, I don't like the looks of the new Yukon/Tahoe but I like the new Expeditions.

My buddy has a 16 Highlander and that thing is nice. It is more compact than those you listed for sure but it does have a 3rd row, leather and it pretty bulletproof.

The one I really liked was the Acura MDX. It drove really good but it was a little pricier than I wanted to go with my personal vehicle.

Just got rid of a 2013 Durango Crew AWD that fit all those criteria, it was around $25k. Even though a 3rd row, it's just not as big as the ones on your list.

Love the Suburban for my wife and kids. The newer one are fantastic rides. Lots of safety features, smooth ride, spacious, etc. Really couldn’t ask for much more. The Escalade is also nice, but not sure it’s worth the extra change based on the incremental features.
