In case you haven't heard, TX is a whole 'nother country. Don't want anything to do with the South.
The feeling is mutual.

But no Tennessee? Tennessee is as southern as it gets for a state.

The Cotton Capital of the world is in Tennessee.

I tried to shade the areas more 'deep South's darker red.
But Mark up on my iPhone isn't my forte

I figured that's what you were doing, but I'd shift the deepest red to the right

Virginia south of the reach of the DC metro is more culturally Southern than South Louisiana. Downvote away but as someone who lived for years in both places it’s true.

I had a boss from Virginia. He used to say that everything north of Richmond were Yankees.

Red states are the Deep South.
Orange states have accents but can't cook as well.
Yellow states have bad football or can't handle their alcohol.

Everything south and east of Arkansas. Arkansas is considered the northwest corner of the "deep South" IMHO.
Those of you not including The Natural State must not have been there. Arkansas is about as typical deep South as it gets.

Texas is south but not the Old South. Since it was the frontier and then a country and then joined the US in 1846, it is definitely not the Old South. Reading James Michener's Texas, poor Texicans were getting slaughtered by Comanches and Mexicans while everyone in the Old South was growing cotton and building plantations.

Seriously...how do you not include one of the original 13 colonies and the place the Civil War started as Deep South?

Anything north of Shreveport isn't deep South.

It’s pretty southern in the surrounding Jacksonville to Tallahassee area down to Ocala, then it stops there.

Kentucky and West Virginia were never the South. Just because your people talk with a country accent doesn't mean you're the South. People have country accents in Ohio as well. Doesn't make them the South.
Deep South? No.
But you take one step outside of Louisville Metro and you’re absolutely in the South in Kentucky.

Virginia is in the south, but hell no to Maryland
Maryland used to be considered the South. Was a Chesapeake slave state but drifted culturally and economically toward the mid Atlantic states by the early 20th century or so.
North Virginia has basically done the same thing by the early 21st. Hit the hill country in Va, though, and you're in baw-land
