only law that truly matterss for you as a cyclist if you get hit.
That's basically saying I can't be held responsible for my actions as a driver. You can't expect me to control my vehicle. Of course a car is going to destroy a person. That's why you need to pay attention while you are driving. Don't give me the whole blind curve bull shite. What if a little old lady has a flat tire around that curve. What if a tree fell across the road around that curve. You never know what's around a blind curve. If you are driving so fast you can't react to what's on the other side of what you can't see, you are admitting to driving recklessly and too fast.
If drivers do what they are supposed to, and cyclists do what they are supposed to, everyone goes home safely without even trying hard. I'll admit tons of cyclists do stupid stuff. But get out there and ride and you will see how many drivers are DEADLY. And a lot of the time it's on purpose to try to show the cyclist "who's boss". You'd be very surprised how often it happens. Again, I've just given up on it and it's sad.

I wouldn't mind seeing Stretches of River Road and the Lakeshores(LSU Lakes) made in to one-way for vehicles, allowing a 2-way lane for pedestrians/bicycles.
I really think it would change everything if they just paved the whole levee from Ben hur all the way around the point.

5 pm is when the relief comes on and you have a bunch of tired plant workers who have been out in the rain or sun all day and just want to get home. The last thing they want holding them up is douchey spandex pencil dick riding out in the middle of the road because he feels entitled to own the road and hold up traffic
So you are tired, you can't be expected to drive safely?

And the last thing a training athlete needs is some blue collar truck nut baw driving across both lanes while tossing tallboys out the window.

Oh you edited that quick!
Also, my frick em was towards cyclist in general. Not the old guy. No one deserves to get run over, but I won’t shed a tear for the ones who do.

It's a problem in Baton Rouge because drivers are very bad, distracted, and won't take any responsibility for it.
Exactly, this is a fact. You assume all the risk of that fact when you get on the road. It's risky for me to be on the road in my vehicle, but it's less risky than on a bicycle because I'm more visible, have lights, don't get hurt as badly if hit..
Etc.
Why do so many people want to place blame on other people and other problems that you can't and won't fix? You're responsible for yourself and your safety. You should almost never rely on others to keep you safe and in the very least, do everything in your control to keep yourself safe. Minimize your risk, and life will be great.

Do you feel like driving home at 20 mph (tops) when you get off work?

I'm in NOLA every week, and I see assholes on bikes every time. I saw a guy blow through a red light on esplanade yesterday with his toddler on the bike.
Those assholes are not comparable to the true fanatics that train and race.

Well no shite. If I go walk around North Baton rouge with hundred dollar bills falling out of my white boy pockets, I'm an idiot. And if I get shot, you fully have the right to cthink that was a bad decision on my part. But that doesn't mean that the issue isn't the guy who shot me. Doesn't mean you don't arrest him. He doesn't get a free pass because I shouldn't have done that in your opinion.
That's basically what we do with drivers, at least in the public opinion. The blame is put on the cyclist.
It's crazy how my cycling/car accidents are hit and run. The driver immediately knows they were completely wrong and take off.

I don't think I need to say anymore. I agree drivers suck, that's why I would not be a dumbass and ride a bike on any semi busy road way. I knew this as a young child, why can't people figure it out... people break all kinds of laws and/or are just shitty at driving. No legislative law can overcome the laws of physics.

Again, I'd say 100 times as many cyclist around me as there are in Baton Rouge. The Ironman North American Championship course used to go around my house and people train it constantly. I can think of one time where it was an inconvenience to have a cyclist. Normally takes 20 to 30 seconds max to pass them. It's crazy to think that 20 to 30 seconds destroys your day.
And that one bad experience was some idiot with his wife following him in a car with blinkers on basically blocking people from passing.
