Ouachita Shi'ites ( )
Senator
fricking hated it.
Tried to leave in the middle of the night. But a couple people stopped me.

Our cheer was done to "We will rock you" by Queen. Song was that Vietnam song by Billy Joel.
My biggest memory is walking into the ballroom for the dance with Girls State. And guys are just letting these deadly farts as we pass by the girls.

I went in 2005. Was elected as the Secretary of Agriculture. I forget what party I was in.

I went in 1958 - can't remember party or parish. Was in Tennessee City. Only elected president of school board. (Girl I was dating at the time was elected Governor of Girls' State.)

The girls from my HS went to Girls State. The boys were not allowed to go to Boys State due to some scandalous act perpetrated by delegates in a prior year.

1993 -- Nationalist, Pointe Coupee, Parish Public Defender.

I remember Steve Zissis, who's now an actor, was the Governor that year.

It was a fun time. Can't say I'd recommend that level of sleep deprivation to anyone, but we definitely had fun.

Went in 2006 only because my father had gone and convinced me it would be meaningful to him if I went. I tried to block specifics from memory, as it was a lame arse week. Would've much rather been in my hometown that week partying with friends. Later, I was able to identify some of the douche counselors during rush and avoided those fraternities. That was helpful, I suppose.

Dreaded it heading up to NSU but had a blast and made some friends I still talk to today.

1997, holy cow that was 20 years ago this year

Vernon, Tensas Parish (I think)

Don't recall the party

Was a Senator.

Met some interesting people. Didn't keep in touch really with any of them. I wonder if it's easier these days (I assume they still have Boys State??) with social media and e-mail and text.

I remember a guy from Jesuit ran for Governor from our party and gave a really impressive speech. He won the nomination. Then when we had the general election, he gave the same damn exact speech, and everyone was annoyed and he got slammed in the general election.

I also remember a "story" the counselors told us the night before the dance, about a dance in the prior year, a guy got a shirt from a girl's state person and the shirt smelled like vagina. that was the exact word the counselors used.

It was at LSU and I think I slept for pretty much an entire day after we got back.

84 or 85. No idea what Parish. I completely lost my train of thought during some speech-running for something? Possibly the worst single moment of my life.

The Dance with Girls State made up for it and then some.
