Which of these scams did your parents/grandparents fall for?

My childhood considered of Amway-branded... Everything. Just assumed they were some kind of benevolent company who supplied all our needs. Anyone else take L.O.C. bubble baths?
Avon. I assumed the Avon lady was my mom's best friend but only saw her when she was bringing my mom soap and makeup. I did get some really cool soap shaped like snowmobiles one time.
World Book Encyclopedia. Lots of heated exchanges between my parents over this one but we have the full set and somehow subscribed to the yearly yearbook. I can't imagine how much that cost us over the years.
Kirby. Oh man. I thought my dad was going to hide in the bushes and beat the shite out of that guy. We might be the only family who got a refund on that.
Tupperware parties. Geez those plastic bowls were expensive. We were required to treat them like fine China.
Plenty more I'm forgetting...

Vector Marketing. Cutco Cutlery.
I got a call when I was 18 from this marketing company saying they got a referral from some guy I barely knew that I would be a great fit and they wanted to interview me.
My dad always said nobody will call you to give you a job worth having, gotta go find it. I knew better

this for sure, but I'm not sure if it was a scam. I loved our world book encyclopedia library. I spent a lot of time looking at them and reading them.

My mom went the Avon route once. Made me laugh even as a youngster.
Just seemed like complete BS

But the scissors cut a penny and the trimmer cuts through shoe leather!!!
I actually have several pieces of Cutco from my parents. They are great knives, and I like that they have a Lifetime Warranty, no proof of purchase necessary. I know Mom’s gotten a couple of replacement knives after we broke the tips off stabbing a cutting board.
We did have Tupperware, too, but only a few pieces.

FWIW, my mom still has the Kirby Vacuum cleaner she bought 40 years ago.
She also bought a World Book encyclopedia set.

those deals where you would pay $10 bucks or something for a CD and then get 5 for a penny. but then they charged S&H for each one.
And then you had to buy 10 more full priced within the year or they'd charge you $200 or something.

I don't know what Kirby is but what makes those others a scam?

My Grandparents in laws paid someone $8,000 to get me out of jail. Said the people sounded just like my wife. We just moved to Dallas for work and I was just recently a police officer and never been in trouble. Needless to say they called my wife later on that night to find out it was a scam.

We bought some stuff from a friend’s daughter who is selling it to help put herself through college. It’s expensive as hell but I love my chef’s knife.

Y’all remember Destiny Calling Cards?

My mom bought the encyclopedias but I used them for many years. I don’t know what she paid but I don’t consider it a scam.
I bought a Kirby vacuum in 2000 and it is still our vacuum today. Seemed like a big purchase at the time but it has paid for itself many times over.

i still have my cutco knives from 20 years ago and use them daily. not the greatest use of money i've ever done, but not terrible by any means.

I think it was Fraternal Order of Police. I was in high school and answered the phone once. Was in a hurry to get off so just agreed on whatever donation they were peddling thinking nothing would come of it.
They hounded my parents for what seemed like years trying to follow up and collect. I never broke. Will take that commitment to my grave.
