Nothing is more stressful driving on the interstate around a ton of 18 wheelers who are all having to move into the left lane to get around a slow traveling vehicle.

People driving 100 is fine. They are here and gone quickly. It doesn't bother me if they do it from the left lane, and give people an opportunity to get around and move into the right lane. It's the fast movers that try to zig zag around everybody who piss me off.

You can say this all you want, but physics is not on your side here. The fact that air resistance squares with speed means that a small increases in speed leads to a large increases in drag force and therefore fuel efficiency. In fact, doubling your speed quadruples your drag.

A perfect example of this is the Bugatti Veyron. Many cars can reach 150 mph with around 400–500 horsepower. But the Veyron needs over 1,000 horsepower to reach its top speed of around 253 mph. Why? Because at that speed, air resistance is so extreme that most of the engine's power is used just to push against the air. In fact, at it's top[ speed, more than 90% of the Veyron’s horsepower is consumed just by aerodynamic drag alone.

Sorry, but I don't read every thread. If I missed a joke, my bad.

15 under or over, the driver on the phone is the problem.

In the left lane, this is a bigger problem and more likely to cause an issue:

quote:

B) Driver traveling at 15 mph under the speed limit

When there is a shortage of capacity, more vehicles have to move at a uniform speed. So both of these are a problem in Louisiana since the state doesn't even bother reacting to over utilization by adding either alternative routes or additional capacity:

quote:

A) Driver traveling at 15 mph over the speed limit

B) Driver traveling at 15 mph under the speed limit

If it's a mostly empty highway sure. Or if everyone else is going at or near 100.

But when there's real congestion (and there is along the gulf coast), any real deviation from the herd is potentially dangerous. We need to fix our f-cking highways if we even want a "fast" and "slow" lane. In many places we need additional lanes, a solid center barrier, and better lighting and alignment for safety.

Option A is more fuel efficient as was proven by the OT years ago.

If either of them can maintain a lane and keep that speed consistently I don't care.

What causes me the most headaches are the people who cannot maintain a speed and those who constantly weave in and out of traffic.

What frustrates me is left lane campers that think I am weaving in and out because I get back in the right lane after passing. I’ll suddenly be passing up the left lane line and get aggressive responses from those stuck in the left lane. It’s a weird paradox because I’m not rapidly passing in the right lane.

Neither. It's the combination of the 2 that's the issue.

D) Driver going the speed limit in the left "passing only" lane.

This is a huge issue in Texas

Are we on I-10 and is there a Nissan product involved in this? Because that changes about everything. Also is this on the twin span?
