It's obviously a religious figure like Jesus or Muhammad. But taking them out of the equation, it has to be Johannes Gutenberg. He invented the movable type printing press which has impacted history more than anything else. It was critical for the spread of knowledge since it allowed information to be widely transmitted to the masses through print. The printing press changed everything because there's no way the Renaissance, Protestant Reformation and Scientific Age would have developed the way it did through word of mouth.

He is only credited with inventing it because he printed Bibles, the Asians were doing the same thing hundreds of years before according to many.

Ha, You know I sat there for a little bit before I hit "submit" thinking if I should make note that I am not underestimating the contribution by saying what he did. Then I said, its okay I'm sure people will understand my point without that disclaimer.

Lo and behold

What can I say, bro? You're just too subtle.

It would be hard if not impossible to pin one single person as the biggest impact on history but as a people it is easy to say the Romans.

It was the dude who first planted a crop. Or maybe the one who irrigated a crop. No food surplus year in and year out, no civilization or written word or science or math or anything like it.

If by Asians you mean Genghis Khan, than I will definitely put him in third right behind Jesus and Ted Nugent (tied with Muhammad and Steve Jobs).

In fairness, I had Gutenberg above Jesus.

What great effect has Jesus had on the course of human events besides personal salvation, that compares with the conquering of Asia?

wut? The crusades, Charlemagne, Constantine, the fall of the Roman Empire, the Vatican, Martin Luther, the 100 Years War, the 30 Years War. I mean damn, the list goes on and on and it all goes back to Jesus being crucified as the genesis of all of it. And I'm not a Christian fwiw.

Lulz. You're making the argument that it's jesus with this statement.

No, Jesus and Christianity are only what they are because of Constantinople, the spread of the church was due to a Roman emperor not the idea that Christianity or the divinity of Jesus would somehow shape the world.

Christianity would be a long forgotten cult if hadnt been for a mentally diseased emperor

Another honest question: khan conquered Asia. Cool. How did that resonate throughout history?

By replacing the rulers of china, India, and Persia with Mongolians, who were from a completely different culture and way of life.

The first Spaniard that infected the South American Indians....their interactions and the exchange of antigens reshaped the biology of all humankind since.

The world would basically be the same whether or not Jesus existed.

Well, I probably would have never been circumcised so let's not go overboard here.

Yeah but it's not because, you know, Jesus. Again, your statements are supporting that it's jesus. The roman emperor spread the "church" that was based on "Jesus".
