Don’t the ecoboosts have fake exhaust tones pumped in to the speaker's to cover up how bad they sound

Probably so. There should be law against putting a shitty six cylinder engine in a full size pickup. I mean, if you drive a truck with a six cylinder you may as well say you drink those seltzer beers and enjoy looking at men in tight pants.

Got rid of my 2011 5.0 at 120k and picked up another 5.0 last year. Only maintenance I’ve ever had to do is routine oil changes.

Great engine. Know a few people who had some serious timing chain and turbo issues with the eco boost. Not saying they’re terrible based on that sample size, and it’s a cool idea.

But less things to break on the 5.0 IMO

Funny even Ferrari couldn't get away with calling their car an F150, it got stuck with the horrible moniker La Ferrari instead. I mean the Ferrari The Ferarri... seriously Maranello.

Piped in engine noise has been a thing in cars for around a decade now.

None of the above. F250/F350 with 7.3L gas is what you seek.

For what you are towing, any would be fine.

The ecoboost motors are maintenance divas. You better make sure to change the oil a lot since they have twin oil cooled turbos on them.

For heavier towing, I prefer a v8 myself. I have had a pair of 5.0 f150s that I have towed up to about 13k to 14k with and both did well. A V6 just won’t hold up over time towing that much constantly though it can do it sporadically just as well.

Gas mileage doesn’t have much difference if you put a toolbox and run with some weight in both.

The 3.5 eco boost is a piece of shite engine designed to het high initial quality ratings. One it gets about 90k on the motor with proper oil changes it still becomes a huge shite box. Doing anything truck related strains the turbo, and you better change the oil constantly to have a chance.

No Ford engine makes sense to me. If had to, 3.5 eco, if gun to head or like throwing $ down drain

Perhaps I am naive, but how would this be possible? The turbo supplements engine power by using exhaust gas pressure as a generator to increase compressed air flow for the engine. Does more work mean that the turbine spins too fast?

The problem with a V6 doing heavy lifting is that it just doesn’t hold up over time. The turbos will give enough power boost to do heavy lifting for awhile but it will eventually wear down faster.

I don’t think the turbo strain is necessarily correct. The turbos are big time maintenance issues though. I had to buy a new motor and turbos for my dad because he fricked around with oil changes and blew up the motor. 15k later he learned his lesson. Meanwhile, my 300k miles of heavy lifting on a pair of V8 F150s have never been in the shop.

Had the 3.5, and it ran like a clock until around 150K. Then the problems popped like a Whack A Mole game. A couple of grand in repairs, turbos died. Picked up the V8 a few weeks back. It sounds like a truck. Two buddies who are mechanics recommended the V8 hands down. One drives nothing but a F-150 with the V8 around Colorado Springs, and knowing him, that truck is not treated kindly.

Good luck!

I went from a 2008 5.4 to a 2015 2.7 ecoboost F150 6 months ago.

I tow a cargo trailer, dump trailer, camper, boat and utility trailer multiple times a week with weights from 1k to 10k.

I have been surprised by how well the 2.7 pulls.

It took a few weeks to get used to how quiet the engine was compared to the traditional v8 sound, but as far as doing truck things, it has been great.

Max payload is 1730 and OP has a heavy camper and a boat to haul.

I just bought a camper and a chevy silverado 3500 with a long bed for this exact scenario.
