I work for a private company and enjoy it.

And come tax season a diff cpa firm handles that so I'm just chilling in the spring. Slow time for me.

At our company it's just me and the controller handling the day-to-day.

I dont make great money though, just have a less stressful load and I only answer to the controller. If I wanted to make more then id move back to the city and work more hours.

Obviously what I make is good enough for Louisiana but I couldnt live in other areas on this salary.

Corporate internal audit or Feds

You can easily start at gs-11 with a CPA and gs-12 with a MBA

If you look at salaries, be sure to check which pay scale table you are looking at. Base is not the actual salary because locality is added. Also since you are not currently a fed employee, you can negotiate step

Where are you located? Are you willing to move?

There are all sorts of finance/audit positions in the Fed.

How long have you been in public accounting? You should have a pretty good idea of what is available in industry and/or former co-workers to discuss with. Also, you should have a solid network of clients with opportunities for industry positions.

He’s basically ahead of my controller when she got the job. She was in her final year of mba. There are plenty of small businesses that don’t know what they are doing accounting wise that start to grow and need a controller or just internal accounting.

Even if you are outsourcing your accounting, some of those people working on your account can be green and never have worked in your industry. They frick things up and you might need to be the one to tell them to reclassify this or that you dumbasses have to accrue the property taxes, you can’t just throw them all into 13th period.

Real estate agent. Auto sales. Highly valued jobs everyone in the OT respects.

Enterprise rent-a-car. They give you the tools you need to be your own boss.

Realistically - corporate controls, CFO track.

Plenty of companies I know looking to hire in finance and accounting. Defense contractors, chemical. Just pick a city you want to live and search.
