Where’d all the kids get the phrase “down bad” from?

That used to be old New Orleans hood slang. It’s been around for years and was a local thing.
Now all of a sudden in the past couple months, I’m seeing that phrase everywhere used by young people from all over and of all races.
Did some new song come out that I don’t know about where all these kids got that phrase from thinking it’s new?
It reminds me of when all these kids thought Miley Cyrus invented the word “twerking”. Twerking had been slang in the hood since at least the early 90’s.

The only time I’ve ever said “down bad” is when I’m at the casino and someone asks me how I’m doing

You need a comma.

It’s one of the few fad phrases that I actually like
Sometimes people are just down bad
Sometimes people are just down bad

Can you use it in a sentence?

What about the old slang, "What's up little fawley?" Or was it spelled "farley?"

You down bad for this thread.
Its been a phrase in Louisiana forever, probably started in Nola and/or BR. Its been in rap songs for a long time. Everyone in the rap game stays trying to copy that La flavor, baw.

My point is it randomly caught on with 15 year old white kids all over the country in the past couple months.

I've used it not very often since high school.
I always used it if someone did someone wrong. You down bad for that.
I have no idea if it's right.
