At work on an offsite location. Work truck was parked with the windows down and had WWL talk radio playing and heard a plane had hit the tower. Went to control room and told them to turn the tv on and was watching coverage as plane 2 hit.
At first I can remember thinking it was an accident and when the second hit it immediately was a gut punch of what had truly happened.
Completely locked down the facility and had immediate law enforcement presence within the hour or so.

Pre-assembly sophomore year. It was announced before first bell then I had Spanish where we rolled in a TV to watch like most of the other classes. The whole day was watching and debating next steps for the US.

I was packing the last suitcase to go to mobile airport to go to the outer banks for vacation week at the beach with in-laws. I think our flight was at noon or 1 or something. Obviously that didn’t happen. In a bizarre twist when we did go Katrina hit

On my way to the gym. A real gym ran by a retired Marine sniper. You can imagine the environment in there that day.

I had MWF classes that semester. I was in the process of getting my ramp van converted so I could drive with hand controls. On 9/11/01 I had an appointment at the place that was doing the conversions. My appointment was at 9:30AM and I was sleeping a little bit later and had my clock set for 8AM. Someone called me and told me to put the news on. It might have been less than a minute later I was watching the 2nd plane run into the tower.

Completing the last day of Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) training for the Air Force. We weren't told until that night when we were brought back to the base. At first, we thought there's no way this is true and they are just running another training scenario on us to put us back in the POW camp. It finally hit home that it was real when they had a Chaplain come to the podium and he prayed for all the victims and families. That was reinforced when we saw the base was on FPCON Delta and the base was locked down.

Me and my best friend had gotten epically hammered the night before.
We lived about 5 houses apart on the same block, In Shreveport.
I awoke to the phone ringing…always had the tv on as I slept. At the time, I left it on one of the big three because they never stopped having something on…noise for sleep.
My mother was on the other end of the phone and proceeded to tell me that something crazy was going on and that the pentagon had been hit…
Simultaneously while listening to her with blurry eyes and looking at the television screen they showed the second plane hitting the second tower targeted. I think it was a replay.
My friend in question had an uncle very high in the state department and his office was at the pentagon.
Giant hangover aha moment I sprint down the block and started beating the shite out of his front door.
He doesn’t answer.
I go around the outside of his house and bang on his window.
He comes to the window with a crazy unhinged face asking wtf?
I tell him to open the front door and turn on the news.
He sees my face and doesn’t hesitate.
By the time we sit down on furniture the phone rings..
He answers it..
“Ok..ok…ok..alright “
Hangs up.
It was his uncle.
He couldn’t get in touch with his parents (my friends grandparents) to let them know he was ok..
he was late to an office meeting in the pentagon and watched the plane fly into it while in the car.
My buddy proceeded to call everyone he could to let them know his uncle was ok…
Somewhere in there his mother (who is a teacher at cope middle school right next to barksdale afb) called to say that Air Force 1 just flew over her school.
The rest is a blur but all of that happened in about 2 hours.
When my daughter asks me about surreal..
It’s pretty pertinent.

11th grade AP US history class. We saw the 2nd plane hit live after someone told our teacher about the first plane. She turned our class TV on literally minutes before.

I woke up that morning at a motel in Cody, Wyoming. Was in the middle of moving back to Georgia from the west coast. Tv was on when I walked in to the lobby, on my way to find the coffee. Had just woken up and wasn’t 100% awake yet. Saw the 1st plane hit while walking through the lobby, my initial thought, still being not fully awake, was it must be a movie that I’d never seen. Surreal moment I’ll never forget.

South Texas hungover with tellamundo on from the night before drinking game. Had only been in the coast guard 9 months and everything changed. Went from horror, to anger in 30 seconds.
