6th grade math class

Teacher ran in and said planes hit the WTC

Guy next to me said “what’s the World Trade Center” I shrugged cause I didn’t know. I knew building once I saw it later but didn’t know it by name.

One of the more surreal stories I heard was from an old boss who was a manager at a regional airport for delta at the time. They had just gotten all the morning flights out and had a daily morning meeting. The phone that doesn’t ring unless something bad is going on, rang. They listed the flights that were coming in, then he asked what was going on. The voice was just said “turn the news on we’ve been attacked.” He said he never got the voices name and never talked him before or since.

They had more flights land in the next few hours than ever before. People going everywhere. Overall it was mostly chill. People just calling family and glued to the TV.

As people started renting cars they’d shout a city and strangers would pile into a car together. “Atlanta” “Memphis” “Dallas” whatever the hop in and go for a ride. No nonsense, just people helping people. That part has always stuck with me.

Holding my new born baby girl. Home from the hospital one day and was sitting there drinking coffee as she slept in my arms when the morning news came in as breaking news.

Passed out in a SLU parking lot recovering from a hangover.

The next 3 hours were the most surreal experiences of my life. Including waking my gf up asking her to explain to me what was on tv.

"What channel"
"Pretty sure it will be on every channel"

I was in 3rd grade at my super small Catholic school. I remember the teachers telling us something serious is going on and we were leaving early that day. I didn't see the footage until much later that day and being confused on why the hell someone would do that.

I already posted this on the other board:

I was off that day and slept in. I woke up and turned the TV on in time to see the first tower on fire. The plane hit the second tower shortly after.

I called the girl I was dating at the time. She was already watching it. Her parents lived in DC where her dad worked for a lobbying firm. He was driving to the Capitol that morning and saw the smoke from the Pentagon.

Her parents were pretty well connected and heard all kinds of rumors in the following weeks. A lot of them had to do with Russian suitcase nukes that AQ had supposedly gotten possession of.

Her parents were at an event one night where George Bush and Colin Powell were supposed to speak. Their security details suddenly hustled them both out and the MC announced the event was canceled. That freaked everybody right the frick out.

I woke up, prolly hung over, and when I was driving to class, at northwestern state university, the Bob and Tom show, 96.9 I think, was weird. Not the usual comedy show. I got to NSU and they had TVs set up in Keiser Hall showing something. I wasn’t awake yet. Then I went to a geography class (am amazing class) and learned all about what just happened.

Shop class in 8th grade. Teacher was awesome and just had the news rolling the whole time.

I actually had heard of the first plane on the local radio riding to class with my mom. They were joking about it assuming it was a prop plane or something. It definitely wasn’t clicking at that point.

I remember listening to Walton and Johnson and they were in their normal voices way after the 7am hour.

Had to drop of some technical documents that morning as part of work and called the older consultant and he was just perplexed.

Federal Reserve in Little Rock (I was there for a banking seminar), I was getting checked in when the second plane hit the tower. We were locked down and not allowed to use our cell phones until around 4pm, at least they finally wheeled a tv into the conference room so we could watch what was going on

Driving to work, hearing about the first tower on the radio. Got to work, some immediate convos about what a freak accident that must’ve been.

Two TV’s in the gym, watching two local channels on each one and I believe it was CBS who had the first shot of the 2nd plane. I don’t remember much after that

Was an E-7 in the US Navy, stationed in Charleston , SC as a nuclear instructor @ NPTU. Was at my middle sons 2-week old doctor checkup with my wife when it came on the TV in the waiting room. Remember telling my wife .. "Osama Bin Laden .. we have to go now" .. got up and left, dropped the wife and my son off at our home (5 miles from base) and took me an hour to get onto base.

8th grade. Walked into home room and the teacher had a radio sitting on a little stool front and center of the classroom, broadcasting some news station.
This was abnormal…she had never done this and had no idea what was going on. We simply…sat there and…listened as the day and events unfolded. It was surreal.
A little while later in PE, the teacher came up and said “the buildings collapsed”. It didn’t seem real or possible. I remember thinking “how does that happen”.
Watched the footage on the news when we got home, simply amazed and also horrified by what happened

9th Grade Biology. Was the only classroom in the school that had a TV with cable, so we watched it all unfold. Cut it on right before the second tower was hit and watched the first tower fall right as the bell was ringing to change classes.

First job out of college. Flew 3/4 weeks a month….luckily that week was my office week. Other colleagues were in the air. One guy had to rent a Uhaul truck and drive to BR from Cincy because by the time he was rerouted and landed all rental cars were gone

2nd grade. I vaguely remember them telling us that a plane hit a building very far away from us and that we didn't need to worry about it where we were. They didn't turn the TVs on for us.

UNO

Had class at 8 and 930. People were talking about it in my 930 class.

After 930’class walked to union for a meeting. There was one big screen tv in the union with over 100 people watching it. Stone silent.

Meeting was cancelled.

Went to work at 3. Was working at a hotel. Had a bunch of cancellations.

I got up that morning and jumped in the shower to head to the office. I had the radio on the Rick & Bubba Show out of Bham and they were talking about one of the twin towers being hit by an airplane. They were wondering how an airplane had hit one of the towers on a perfectly clear morning. When I got out of the shower, I turned on the TV to see what was up. While I was watching the news coverage, the second plane hit the other tower That’s when I knew something was bad wrong.
