The Chinese refer to their AI program as Skynet.

Seeing more and more about it, could eliminate a lot of jobs in the future apparently. Not a good thing from that standpoint.

Hmm, that's exactly what I'd expect AI's first test post to look like.

It's a gimmick. It just uses probability and a huge data set to string together symbols (words, pixels of a certain color... whatever) that seem like they belong next to each other.

Computers were playing chess in the 1950s. No doubt there were people who observed that and made outlandish predictions. The glacial pace at which so-called AI has advanced since is very revealing.

It’s a fad. Just like every other gimmick in this country.

People act like AI is some brain. It is not. It simply scrapes information from websites and spits it out so the users think AI did it. AI did not.

AI will give you the ability to dox those who post on social media.

Will have to learn manners again.

It’s a buzzword for sure as most people don’t really understand AI

I wouldn’t say that the underlying tech is a fad though. That shows a complete misunderstanding of what’s happening. We basically are to the point of recursive machine learning without much, if any, human intervention…which means exponential growth in mass data manipulation

THAT’S my fear. Truth can be instantly scrubbed and replaced in a nanosecond with a compelling narrative for the sheep.

The other fear is AI that plants kernels of itself throughout the global system meaning we couldn’t eradicate it.

What’s really scary is AI ingesting all this fake news bullshite and running off of what Google, etc. feeds it. Manipulated “intelligence.”

Correct. BS in means BS out. AI is very good at writing code and app development, though. It will also be able to replace CPAs and tax accountants almost immediately.

try to use ai and that will help you understand. learn how ai "thinks" and that will help you understand.

This is precisely why large language models like GPT are such a big deal. Everyone in the general public is hung up on parlor tricks like whether it can pass the bar. That’s not the point.

The point (in the greater context of artificial general intelligence) is that these LLMs will allow people to interact with AI using our language. This means people won’t have to code programs for specific purposes - they will just be able to tell the AI, in human terms, what they are trying to accomplish.

This leads into pretty staggering impacts when it comes to practical application of artificial intelligence. Particularly in design/engineering fields. “Hey Siri, debottleneck this crude unit.” Or “GPT, design an HVAC system for this office building that maximizes efficiency, while meeting all applicable building codes, without sacrificing comfort or aesthetics.”

You know GPT isn’t able to search the internet, right?

That cat is out of the bag. GPT Plugins are in testing and coming fast, and can connect it to the internet.. Also, Bing is connected I think.

AI is going to revolutionize nearly every field. Remember that chatGPT is a generalized LLM. Specialized LLMs are amazing already. Over the coming 5 -10 years I'm afraid there's going to be a massive upheaval across nearly all industries that don't require manual labor in the remainder of 202X.

I’m aware. But when people talk about ChatGPT simply scraping data from websites, they are failing to realize that ChatGPT doesn’t have the ability to actively search websites in the first place. That was my only point.

Obviously once you connect it to the internet (as in the case of other apps using GPT as a plug-in) the capabilities increase dramatically.

One would hope.
