Which is a shame, because it's pretty cool otherwise.

Arkansas is a very underrated state for chilaxin'.

We just got back from there last week for a week stay in a cabin in the baby mountains near Jasper. We have been going many times a year for the last four years. We are going look at homes and land up there when I get in from offshore next week. That's where I want to be.

It's funny that Colorado got downvoted and this gets upvoted. They BOTH have months of subfreezing weather.

I have a house in Charleston Utah, and that is an awesome retirement spot. Houses from about $400,000 up. Median is about $800,000. Low crime, restaurants are fairly good (And Park City/Deer Valley is a 25 minute drive away), Salt Lake City airport is a 50 minute drive, summer is comfortable, fall and spring are beautiful, and winter is not bad there because it's only at 5500 feet.

Yellowstone/Jackson Hole, Moab, Dixie National Forrest are within a four hour drive. Wasatch National Park is all around it. There are 7 ski resorts within a one hour drive. Also, there is a beautiful lake - Deer Creek Reservoir.

Spent a week in Asheville last month, and that area is hands down #1 on our retirement list so far.

Had a guy in our office last week who moved to Louisiana from Utah and was raving about how great it is here. Takes all kinds.

It's different. That's why folks from Louisiana love Utah, and folks from Utah love Louisiana. That song Pina Colada sums it up nicely. The couple were tired of each other, but when each wrote specifications for the mate they truly desired it turned out they already had it.

The picture is from an article about Robert Redford selling his 30 acre ranch. It's on the right in the foreground. Not much in the way of facilities; it was just a lower altitude place to keep horses in the winter. His real house is on that big mountain near the Sundance resort.

Asheville’s elevation is only 2300 feet. So while it does get more snow and cold weather than, say, Charlotte, it’s not bad. Average high in January is 48 degrees and they only average 10 inches of snow.

That area does get a lot of rain. Those humid fronts from the gulf dump a lot of rain when they hit the mountains

A friend just bought a place in Tishomingo County. He says that the demographics of that area are surprising for being located in Mississippi.

Pickwick is pretty cool. But it is rural living, which might be a problem for aging retirees.

I guess the nearest "city" for healthcare and shopping would be Tupelo, Corinth, then Memphis.

Rural Utah has meh restaurants and no bars. Rural Louisiana has great cooking and drinks.
