Where in gods green earth are the new cases still coming from??

You realize people still go to grocery stores, Walmart, Home Depot, gas stations, etc right?

Also, people could feel better and still be contagious if they have a mild case. Then they go out...

That said, it's probably more testing, not more cases. ICU beds is the most reliable metric. (For apples to apples/following the trend).

My Grandpas nursing home had its 1st case last Friday
As of this morning there were 5-10 positive cases
Heard another local nursing home had its first case last week as well

Asymptomatic people coming in contact with vulnerable people, there is NO way to prevent it

That's exactly why what we're doing is useless.

I saw somewhere (Fauci, Birx, CDC?) that nursing homes are ground zero for cases and deaths.

From the initial hotspot in WA to other examples around the country this seems to hold true.

If the employees are asymptomatic, and they are picking it up at home or the grocery store, they are always going to be the ones bringing it in to each facility. Once in, it runs rampant through the resident population and unfortunately will kill a certain percentage.

I don't know exact numbers but this probably accounts for somewhere between 10-50% of all deaths based on news articles and first hand stories I have heard from different states.

Is there anyway to mitigate this?

Seems like that should be our #1 goal for preparedness heading in to September.

Depends on where you are. In places that have good procedures, the continued case expansion is environmental-- see Arkansas where now half of the patients are in either the state or federal prison system.

In places that dragged their feet or are reopening too soon/experiencing mass protest movements, its a natural consequence of poor choices mixed with math. The larger the base population infected, the easier it is to get more cases, even if the R rate is in decline.
