Baton Rouge is neither. For example, take a look at how most Baton Rouge natives don’t have a southern or Cajun accent.

The answer is Opelousas.

I'd think on the Northshore area around Folsom, Amite, Kentwood.

I worked with some folks from that area years ago and they sounded like they all had Red Man in their veins and lived in house trailers jacked up on cinder blocks.

Baton Rouge is the melting pot of the state. You’ve got rednecks, river rats, Cajuns, Yats, out of state transplants (a lot from southern MS) and everything in between.

It’s no coincidence that during the LSU pregame they say “it is the Louisiana gumbo of humanity”

I can agree with that I’d say it’s more mixed heritage. There are people that get butt hurt about it, but there is nothing Cajun about Baton Rouge.

In fact Cajun is a way overused term in Louisiana. There are only a hand full of places that are truly Cajun.

I agree with this about the city itself.

Some of the suburbs didn't really follow that rule though. I grew up in Central in the 80s-90s and it was definitely redneck. As was Zachary and LP. AP not as much.

I never really went on the west side of the river except to get beer on Sunday's before 12:30 back in the day

Do you feel Central today is less redneck than it felt 20-30 years ago?

Yes, and they’re only a few miles apart. Totally different accents. Same thing heading west, Basile is coon arse, and a few miles later the accent is twangy

A map of Louisiana showing to what extent (Cajun) French is spoken at home in each parish.

Legend:

Brown: French or Cajun French spoken by 20–30% of the parish population.
Red: French or Cajun French spoken by 15–20% of the parish population.
Orange: French or Cajun French spoken by 10–15% of the parish population.
Yellow: French or Cajun French spoken by 4–10% of the parish population.
Gray: French or Cajun French spoken by less than 4% of the parish population.

It is. Zachary, Denham etc are too. A lot of people moved from BR to those suburbs in the past 10-15 years for the schools.
