It's mostly swamp and floods when the river is high. It's on the other side of the levee .

As close to the existing one as possible. A new one isn't going to alleviate much traffic if it doesn't service I-10.

I'm assuming it would continue through to connect to I-10

If there will be new interstate highway connecting to I-10 on both sides of the bridge, yes, I think that would work.

Otherwise, I just have trouble believing that the bridge will provide the expected relief if it is not relatively near the existing bridge.

I prefer a new road altogether.

Do a toll road between Vinton and Amite or Bogalusa. Cross the river in St. Francisville.

This would eliminate a LOT of traffic on I-10. We could also do toll roads east and west of downtown BR to connect I-10 to the toll road. One could be built to cross the Sunshine bridge.

Either just north of Dow, near Addis or south of Plaquemine in St. Gabriel.

Either way, what is needed in addition to the bridge is:
Controlled access highway connecting said bridge to interstate 10 East of the river.
An additional bridge across the Intracoastal canal, possibly at LA-415 to provide additional capacity and redundancy to reach bridge from the north.
Added capacity to get drivers across Bayou Manchac to more easily access it.

They need to tell the residents until they keep their local traffic off of the interstate they don’t deserve a new bridge. The interstate is backed up all over EBR it’s not just some bottleneck at the bridge.

Why are we talking about only 1 new bridge.

3 should realistically be the number.

How many of the 110K plus that use the BR bridge daily would it redirect?

Most traffic on the interstate is going to one of a few places:
1. Through traffic that isn’t stopping in BR. They would benefit from a decent bypass.
2. Workers commuting to 110 downtown for state offices and Exxon.
3. Students going to LSU, Southern, BRCC (it’s a lot of people as evidenced by how much less bad traffic is when school is out)
4. Hospital district along Essen
5. Workers commuting to jobs on the west bank at the Port, Placid Refinery, and DOW.

How many of the 110K plus that use the BR bridge daily would it redirect?

A southern bridge gets those Dow people off the road, and DOW by itself employs tens of thousands of full-time employees and construction contractors. Probably close to 1/4 to a 1/3 of that 110k would be diverted.

A northern bypass could help divert some of that through traffic.

The bottleneck at the MSR bridge and the LA-1 Intracoastal Canal bridge backs up the rest of the system. It’s not like the surface streets in BR aren’t shitshows as well. We have a road grid designed for 200k people inhabited by 800k people. Too much shite getting sucked through too small a straw.

So, it's the perfect place to build a bridge....

I would imagine a good bit of it, especially 18 wheelers

There are a ton of people driving from the Livingston Parish area to Dow. Just look at LA 1 south of the Mississippi bridge any time after 4:00 when Dow shift lets out.
