When you walk do you pick up with your knees or push off with your foot?

I’ve always been more of a push off guy but I’ve seen some research that picking up with the knee is the more energy efficient approach. They’re saying the push off provides too much upward momentum.

If you’re walking 100 feet, do you take 50 steps or 100 steps?

That's why it will get you a flag or be called a foul.
