If I can go through one and save a few minutes waiting in line, then that benefits me.

I don't mind waiting in a line for a few more minutes to check out if it means someone has a job. It's good for the economy.

Stores aren’t paying employees to check out my purchases, I’m having to do it. Discount for the time it takes to check out at the rate of minimum wage.

My time is way more valuable than minimum wage. The time I save using self checkout more than covers the cost of a cashier to check me out. Win-win for me and Walmart.

Plus I don't have to play cashier roulette with the possibility of getting the unhappy idiot cashier I don't want touching my stuff, particularly food items.

The discount is that I don't have to interact with store employees and I can quickly exit the place before I see someone I know.
Exactly. I love self checkout.

Given the time it takes some of you idiots to use a self checkout, this could lead to fortunes earned.

Not having to deal with another person is as good as any discount the stores can give.

I don't understand all the people that complain about self checkout... we are using technology all over the place to eliminate jobs or at the very least make them more efficient so they can be done with less people.

I like self checkout because I know how to scan my items very quickly, zip my card, and get the hell out of there!

I get the benefit of not having to wait behind an old lady who’s fumbling for a pen so she can fill out a check, or having to deal with a rude, slow cashier who doesn’t want to be there. So there’s that.

You should start your own grocery chain and offer said discounts.

The savings are offset by the mom with six kids scanning only every other item and while pretending to be confused dealing with her chilren.

Probably not, the store is still making a killing running 5 to 6 registers with only one employee. Lets say it costs them 20,000 per year per checkout employee (benefits, taxes, etc. included). It could even be more, I do not know what the Walmark checkout workers make. 6 lanes serviced by one employee saves them a lot or at least 100,000 with those example numbers.

Usually there are one or two human-manned checkouts open, with long lines, while the self-checkouts don't have much of a line.

So, I guess my discount is that I can save time.

I always get a discount when I use a self checkout.
The cashier gets paid for scanning groceries why shouldn’t I.
I’m not gonna let my ice cream melt because there’s only 2 of 20 or so registers open.

Last time I voluntarily passed open self check outs to have someone check my out, there was some confusion with the grocery items the lady had vs what was allowed by WIC. After waiting several minutes, the cashier voided her items and checked me and my 2 things out.

So instead of checking out in 30 seconds, I had the pleasure of staying in the store almost 10 minutes just to be in the "I don't work here crowd." Y'all can keep it.

I'll keep my wait times to a minimum

Not a single human register open at Home Depot today.

Every time I use the self checkout, it malfunctions and an employee has to come over and swipe a card or put in a code.

I would gladly pay more for a person to ring me up and bag my stuff.
