No he is basically right. The British geopolitical strategy of controlling the world by controlling the sea was completely adopted whole cloth by the U.S. post-WW2.

It's ludicrous to say the British empire was the preeminent global power prior to WWII and for many centuries? I'm not making a direct comparison to the geopolitical context, mind you, as that is implicitly an impossible comparison.

I think everyone disagreeing is forgetting that we had something no one else had, and no one else would for two years. We also had minimal casulties and millions of able bodied fighting men ready to deploy.
Not saying we should have taken over the world, I am just saying after VJ day we were hands down the most powerful country in the world with no peers. Starting in 1947 we faced possible nuclear retaliation from the USSR. That two year window before then, no one could have stopped us.

Sure - we could have gone all "Napolean" on the USSR. No sane person would have taken that route. Even with nukes (which would have been mandatory) - why is this a good idea? And the Russians had shown an insane ability to absorb punishment. Even with nukes we wanted no part of that.
We couldn't even occupy Vietnam, let alone the rest of the world too.
I'd say the US peak was the collapse of the USSR and a few years after.
