I see a lot of people lecturing others about the proper way to enjoy Memorial Day. Thing is, there’s no wrong way to enjoy/celebrate it. Do you want to spend it sitting in solace and remembering what was lost so we can have what we have? Good on you Do you want to spend it on the lake getting drunk and being an American? Good on you.(I personally think this is what they would want.) Just don’t forget what has been given up by so many so that we can enjoy i
No one cares if people get together to drink and grill. It’s about knowing the historical context and meaning of the holiday. You can still create wonderful memories but it’s a somber day of remembrance. It’s our duty to share historical knowledge instead of letting it become watered down for the next generation.

Lecturing? Eh. I do make it a point to educate the younger folks around me (like the step kid) know why we have the day off. We still grill out and spend time with friends/family.
Wasn’t able to do it this year but have participated in the last few years putting flags down on the graves of 6,000+ veterans at Cave Hill Cemetery.

The amount of Boomers who can’t decipher between what’s real and what’s AI is really, really frightening.

Happy Memor…… what never mind, I shouldn’tbe happy about hot dogs, grilling, days off of work, the beach, summer staring. I’ll be sad. Not I’ll have fun and:
Thank you for your service to our great country! I’m thankful I’m having a happy Memorial Day weekend because of our American brothers and sisters sacrifice. God bless us all!

If you don't know the meaning of what today stands for, then you should be educated on it.
But there is a way to explain it that doesn't devolve into a lecture.
No, there's not. People post "their day at the beach" here and on social media cause it's their idea of 'courage'. They do the same thing for 9/11 - "DON'T YOU FORGET!!!!!". It doesn't take a genius to understand what MEMORIAL day is for - it's literally in the fricking name of the day. People have always dismissed it since it's something that deserves an actual day of somber reflection - "they'd want me to go party and grill since they died for me" is the excuse. It's only been the last 20 years that the difference between it and VD has been pointed out so much since we have so much social media. Americans don't give two shiites about Memorial Day - never have and never will.

Do whatever you want today. That’s what they died for.
