Next Tuesday means two Tuesdays from now. If it were the one coming up, it would be called "This Tuesday".

I would just say "tuesday" or "on tuesday" if talking about the 5/19

"this coming tuesday" means the very next tuesday no matter whenther it is in this week or next week so use that.

It just seems a little retarded to tell someone "next Tuesday" on Friday night then wake up Saturday morning and refer to the exact same event as "this Tuesday." I'm right, he's wrong as always

This is very subjective. I take "this Tuesday" and "next Tuesday" to be comparable, but context and usage varies and I recognize that.

This or next refers to the week in which Tuesday falls. So "this" tuesday was on 5/19, as it was this week. "Next "Tuesday is 5/26, as it is next week. Come Sunday, "this" Tuesday will now refer to 5/26
