Starting yesterday 5/26 became THIS TUESDAY and 6/2 became NEXT TUESDAY. That will only change after 5/26

This Tuesday = next Tuesday
On any day but Tuesday.
On any day but Tuesday.

I could agree with this
It's an inexact science, of course.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my entire life

FWIW in relation to business, I always just use the date to avoid such confusion.

No, you're wrong. Sorry chief.
ETA: And I could explain exactly how you're wrong... but it's not worth it.

That's what I said. He was claiming the weekend cutoff philosophy.
They go in the same category as the people that start the week on Sunday.

Today, on Thursday 5/21 if I say "We went to the bar this Tuesday" I mean this past Tuesday 5/19
If I say, "Lets meet up after work for a drink this Tuesday", I mean this next Tuesday 5/26

You cant just change the tense in which "this" is commonly used though. Today is Thursday, so therefore if someone would ask you "when is the last time you drank a beer?", you wouldnt say "This Tuesday" because you'd sound like an idiot and would confuse everyone. You'd say "Tuesday". "This Tuesday" will always refer to the Tuesday that is closest to your current day without being passed it.

This. You would say "this" for any coming day this week until Sunday, once Monday starts it is next.

You used the word "went."
That's how we know you meant 5/19. Not because of "this."

Just took a quick poll with the coworkers. 5/5 said 5/26 is "next tuesday." Surprised so many people on here would call it "this tuesday". Interesting

What if I say back to you, "Which Tuesday?"
