You actually can..I have one at home that accepts HDMI and outputs one HDMI..HOWEVER...I choose to not use the receiver as a middle man and go to/from the TV

You see DVR and game consoles run through the receiver and then onto the TV with HDMI and both can play through the surround? That's some new shite that I don't have yet, hook me up with a nice deal. I really don't care for Onkyo, I'm a Harman Kardon guy myself but if you got a good deal...

What you're missing is that the TV only has HDMI inputs, not outputs. You can't run everything through the receiver because then you won't have video.

I've been popping cold medicine all day, so I'm a little hazy, but this isn't making any sense to me. The whole purpose of HDMI is 1 cable for video and audio. I have an Apple TV, xBox 360, Blu-Ray Player and cable DVR all running to a receiver with 1 HDMI each. I then have 1 HDMI from the receiver to my TV. I have full sound and video for all components, including surround sound from the XBox, Blu-Ray and DVR.

That's newer shite. I've never had enough HDMIs to do it.

Most people don't have that many HDMIs.

The confusion is why were you going to the receiver and then to the TV..The traditional way was TV to receiver..Cork seems to be used to an older receiver.

I'll have to wait until I get home but I think my problem may have been with the newer consoles (PS4 and Xbox One). I couldn't get it done for some reason, had to go optical (which is 5.1 sound anyway).

So you separate audio and video at the source and send audio to the receiver and video to the TV? Why go through that much trouble when it can all be routed through the receiver?

OP you need a ground loop isolator.

I had a cheapo coax extension in the attic to my splitter at DVR...just bypassed it and ran the 1 and only coax coming straight from outside directly to the DVR...still doing it...so yea must be ground problem....all appears to be grounded fine outside...I will google that ground loop isolator....thanks
