I'm 33 and still live in an apartment; in fact, the same apartment I have been in since July 2015 and my current lease doesn't end until September of this year. Not really planning to have kids or get married, so the only reason I'd want a house is because a mortgage would be cheaper and I would be building equity.

I just fricking hate moving. I also would then have to make sure I keep up with the property, etc. And then anything that breaks is on my dime. My current apartment is in a great location.. less than a 10 minute drive to work. I can walk to my favorite bar..

I just know I'm getting fleeced staying here though. But if I got a house I think I'd finally get a dog. Haven't wanted to keep a larger breed cooped up in an 825 sq foot apartment.

I was 29 when I bought my first house. I was tired of apartment living and found a good deal in my same neighborhood.

Stay there! Believe me, I can tell by your post that you are too self-centered and weak to take on more responsibility. And for God's sake DO NOT REPRODUCE!

I was 24. The house was great, and I wish I was still in it.

I haven't lived with my parents since I was 24/25. My apartment is $1,037/mo. but that includes the base rent, flat water fee, and I rent the washer/dryer - . The washer/dryer bit is dumb I know... my electric bill is anywhere from $80-120/mo. depending on the month.

When I was 39.

Then again I also spent ten years galavanting across the globe courtesy of the US taxpayer.

Exhibit number one right here of why REIT's on apartments are giving huge returns right now.

People under 35 have little or no interest in home ownership.

When I was young having your own home was THE dream. I bought my first at 25 when I got my first real job and have owned five different ones. Haven't rented since I left college.

If I was in your situation, I wouldn't buy a house, but I would buy a condo/apartment. You get the same benefit of building equity, but you don't have all of the maintenance issues of owning a home and having to deal with a yard and all that fun stuff.

ETA: I was 29 when I bought my first house.

34 years old. Bought it during the housing market collapse for $140K. Have a purchase agreement to sell it as we speak for $340K.

I have The Touch (or just plain dumb luck).
