Most 3 star hotels on The Strip that were traditionally $119+ a night plus paid parking are now $39 to $49 a night plus free parking on weekdays.
With everything shutdown in California (including things like salons, pools, and indoor dining), Southern Californians are taking the 3 to 4 hour drive, with reasonable gas prices, for a thrifty excursion to enjoy some of the few liberties that we still have in Nevada.
While they may be staying four to a room and bringing their own ice chest of beverages into the resort, I am currently very grateful for anyone that is deciding to spend money here right now in the midst of a ridiculously hot summer and reminders of the virus everywhere. They are resulting in incremental staffing and that helps churn throughout the local economy (casinos will still run at losses, instead of mothballing completely, if the base hotel occupancy is there).
I know this has been long winded already but Labor Day Weekend will be a good test for the city and may feel a little closer to "normal". Occupancy is looking good and hotel rates are holding.
My parting note. If you are coming to Las Vegas in the near future, first, thank you and second, I would recommend you make dinner reservations in advance. It is encouraging to see the resort corridor restaurants that are trying to go through the motion at reduced capacity are pretty hard to walk-in last minute.

We really started going to crap when Sisolak became Governor. He put Nevada into a 5 state "pact" with Colorado, Washington, Oregon and California. You've seen who's running things in those states.
The unemployment websites / services are an absolute cluster F. We currently have the third worst unemployment rate in the US.
On the plus side, we have a nice brand new stadium that no one will be allowed in this year.

The best answer on page 1. I go to SHOT for the media company I own with my dad and that crowd is fun but knows how to behave. (It also helps when so many go to after show hours parties thrown by companies.) Monday is always the best since they shuttle us out to Boulder to check out all the latest weapons. From fully auto guns to shotguns to.50 cal air guns. Lots of Israeli military people there too (and they don't screw around.) The show runs Tue-Fri but people start flowing in on packed (with attendees) planes the Friday before and leave the next weekend. (McCarron TSA loves the gun powder residue all over bags setting machines & dogs off constantly.) Down the road they have the sports licensing show. Most of the degenerates at the end of the week end up on the south end with the AVN annual porn convention. I'm hoping things are somewhat normal by then, I'd love to go to a UFC or major boxing card Saturday night.
Really interested to see what numbers the international clientele put up. After the show closes Friday we usually spend the night around the north end and with the Chinese new year its a steady stream of Asians descending on the area. It's going to be chaos if Biden wins...the inauguration is right in the middle of day 2 this year.

My wife and I were gonna go a couple of weeks ago but every message board we went to for Vegas advice the people on the board were basically screaming for us not to come because of Covid. So which is it? Does Vegas currently want tourists or not?

Lol, yes they need money. IF the casinos were allowed they would pack you in like sardines right now

Well it’s cheap as frick right now
Define cheap. I’ll bet they’re still charging $8 for a bottled beer in the casino bars.

That's the point. Lure them in with cheap travel and suck them dry while they are there

Vegas has always been trashy. Sorry if you can’t enjoy it or just don’t like blacks enjoying freedoms.

It was hard to tell on travel message boards from people who lived there. They were basically shaming anybody that would even consider visiting Vegas right now.

Using the data you provided; within the last ten years.

You're definitely there at the wrong time, & sounds like the wrong place. Either way, Vegas trips are best kept to long weekends unless adventuring away from town.

When they ran out of the hooker flyers they always try to place in your hand.

Well it’s cheap as frick right now because half of it isn’t open and it’s August and like an oven there.
Everyone that can’t afford Vegas is there right now
