There’s really nothing wrong with it.
One scenario where it makes sense is if the wife is new to the area (maybe they met in college and moved close to the husband’s family). Having his buddies/family come with wives and girlfriends might help the mom-to-be plug in and make some friends.

Men going to baby showers is one of these new things that I refuse to partake in. Men don’t belong at baby showers. We must take a stand.

Yeah, just say no. I didn't even go to the baby showers for my own kids. I told my wife in the beginning I wasn't doing stuff like that.

I was never even expected to attend. I was never even invited. Of course this was in the dark ages circa 2010 and I understand men are women now.

Do what I do when I am expected to attend weddings, showers, etc. Develop explosive diarrhea the morning of the event. Spend a lot of time in the bathroom making groaning noises. Flush frequently. Eventually everyone else will go to the event and leave you alone.
