I blame “16 and pregnant” and MTV in general for glorifying that stuff

I didn't. The proclamations made are the equivalent of the old "I meant to do that" statement by kids or other inferiors when they make a mistake.

If Scruffy remembers correctly what he heard in Med school, there was actually a drop in teen pregnancy after that show premiered.

That does not mean they are linked, but it is interesting.

I'm guessing the same people complaining about single moms and kids without dad's would also be complaining about abortions so....

know several single mothers who decided not to be miserable in a bad marriage. With the exception of one, they are all doing great, and are doing a great job of raising their kids.

I acknowledge the particular circumstances require divorce. I'm just saying that we need to stop putting single parenthood in the category of being a hero.

Nearly every statistical evaluation show that the best way to increase your chances to be successful in life is to follow a few simple rules:

Don’t get arrested
Don’t do drugs
Don’t have children out of wedlock
Get a job

People seem to think that holding to those simple rules is unreasonable.

I dont blame all single mothers because probably half are single due to the guy leaving or some other circumstances.

It really bothers me how some women proclaim to be strong mothers, yet they will continually get pregnant irresponsibly.

This is the real Issue right here. This has churred out alot of issues that we now deal with in todays society: gangs, crime , kids being disconnected etc.... So many kids gone bad because of this.

When you are poor, broke, stupid, and come from a life of poverty/broken home, you desire two things above all:

1. Love and affection
2. Proof of your maturity

They have babies to prove they are adults to the people around them and to have something/someone that will love them unconditionally.

Of course, neither of those things are true, but teenagers are fricking stupid, especially when they aren't surrounded by good influences.

Who thinks it’s cool other than the single moms trying to justify their mistakes?

This right here...just because every single mom you know spends her day posting about how amazing her kid has made her life and how she wouldn't trade her choices for anything, doesn't make it true.

dont understand why so many young women (especially in minority communities) gravitate toward teenage pregnancy.

It's the only lifestyle they know. Most of them come from homes where there was never a father figure.

I don't think many of them think it's cool (there are some that believe their destiny is to be a mother and want to get started on that, but that's a small percentage). They just don't know any better. They don't know what "successful" looks like. As long as the government is there to play the role of father, there isn't much consequence, either.

I'd also be curious what role birth control and abortion opinions have here. Young women in minority communities are probably having the same amount of sex as young women in other communities, but maybe they aren't using birth control or abortion as much.

I think in the hood, they call that "acting white" and it can get you hurt.

I don't think they're signing up to pop some kids out as teenagers.

They just irresponsibly frick like rabbits and accidentally get pregnant.

Yeah, but to be honest, the young woman wasn't the only one irresponsible while fricking like rabbits. Considering the hard reality... ..that this "irresponsible" action has resulted in a helpless, innocent, and defenseless infant's life that must have responsible adults to survive... and truthfully, both a mother and father's love and attention to develop properly, I have more respect for the single mother who sucks it up and takes on the job of raising the kid head on...than for the dude who thinks he's man enough to go through the motion intended to bring a young life into this world, then runs like a bitch when it's time to finish what he started.

There's stupidity and irresponsibility on both sides for sure...and there many on both sides who do take responsibility... but seems many more "fathers" than "mothers" abandon the responsibilities a father has to his child.

Why is that irresponsible? Plenty of single moms cut it on their own without any help.

Not all of them are on welfare brah.

I worked with someone who was married to a really nice guy. They divorced after a year and soon after she was pregnant by a guy who seemed like trouble. I think there is something to the idea that being a single mother is some sort of victory.
