isnt this just the logical conclusion of people walking through CVS raking everything in the store into their bag and walking out?

Stranded? with a motor that moves it that fast through the water? Or is your stranded a new definition of stranded?

I met a guy that did security for ships like this. Its been like 15 years so don't quote me on this. I think they could have weapons in international waters, but when the would come into countries waters where they weren't allowed to be armed they would simply dump the weapons in the ocean.

Finally someone who really lost their guns in a boating accident.

They probably onbosrd the security teams after the ship leaves the port.

At some point, the pirates will stand away and use drones. Hopefully, the ships will have better drones with longer range.

They'll have radar with jammers soon enough.

How did those people on that tiny boat think they were going to capture that big ship?
That was like a poodle attacking a German shepherd.

ETA
Okay. Now I see that it was probably a drone bomb which makes a little more sense.

That’s exactly what needs to happen and if every cargo ship were armed like this the pirates would disappear

Seems it would be easy to store a few rifles hidden somewhere on a ship that large and nobody would know any better. If you have an incident at sea just shoot the pirates and don’t report it. Who gives a shite

Maybe hit an external fuel tank.

Fuel doesn't detonate like that. Hit some kind of sensitive explosive or a high pressure tank of something flammable or oxygen. Given that a lot of these pirates have access to old Russian, Chinese, and 3rd-world knockoff RPG systems that's probably what went boom.

A similar boat hit a Greek vessel recently in that area of the Red Sea.

The attack boat even had life-sized dummies on board. Armed security thought it was pirates, and watched it approach the ship waiting on them to take aggressive action before opening fire.

Instead of pirates trying to board the ship, the attack boat was unoccupied, full of explosives, and detonated causing heavy damage to the cargo vessel.

That’s the reason these guys were taking no chances. A few warning shots at first in case it was manned, but they weren’t letting a drone boat near their ship.
