People see homeless and get mad. They see a stray dog or cat and get emotional.
Make homeless people pets. Think about it. You could own a real German Shepherd!

I’ve come a long way in how I view homelessness
It’s a problem that has been enhanced by the prevalence of opiate addiction and big pharma.
There’s no easy fix.
Until such time as people die off, cities can mask the issue by housing these people but that can be expensive and most of these facilities disallow drugs /alcohol which runs many to the street.
Unfortunately, there are political motives behind some of the solutions with financial incentive. There are large contractors cutting deals with municipalities to “fix” the problem but they’re really cashing in on taxpayer dollars.

Most of them are breaking laws.
Its time for an intervention.
You go to jail or you go into treatment.
Coming off opioids in jail sounds awful, id take the treatment.

Many who are homeless are self medicating with mental issues. Jimmy Carter passed the best mental health bill in the history of the USofA and Ronnie killed it when he got in office. To add insult to injury Ronnie signed the laws to close the long term locked care facilitates that treated the population that needed it and converted to mental health care by police. Not only does it not work, but it also costs about 8 x of the old long term locked facilities.
Hey, we privatized jail / prison under Ronnie and they had to fill the beds some way.
I'll go a step further. the medical community ran a very aggressive ad campaign for opioids and our country is now dope sick. they shouldn't be allowed to prescribe it or kill someone using it in a hospital setting where they then have to use Narcan to bring you back.
So are these people mentally ill and smoking fentanyl or are they mentally ill because they smoke fentanyl?
And lets say we had a bunch of insane asylums. Will these drug addicts living on the street check themselves in, or would they stay living on the streets where they get free food and money and can continue to do their drugs?
Thats why you need intervention. Most of these people will never take the steps themselves. They are living the life free of responsibility.

All decent solutions have terrible tradeoffs regarding the homeless. The more you feed it, the more homeless you get. If you stop feeding it, society complains and protests which makes re-election difficult.
Too many modern folk have idealistic solutions which are expensive and dont work. YOu have to improve your people, or let them fall to their fate. Propping them up doesnt work.
You cannot save everyone.

Why do people think there is a solution to something that has always been “a feature” of the human condition?

We could send them to fight in Ukraine instead of sending billions.

Go read about Jesus' parable about the talents. Jesus was no fan of a bunch of layabouts.

It's a mental health which develops into an addiction issue but until you're dealing with a mental health issue you gotta just let them be
Even if you go out round them all up you gotta do something with them and once you let them back out it's gonna be worse

Psychiatric hospital employee here. I think this solution is probably correct, but it’s damn near impossible to pull this off. The turnover rate of employees in mental institutions makes it impossible to run large psychiatric facilities appropriately. A lot of the abuse in the large state run hospitals in the past was a result of understaffing.

Put them in work camps where they do things like road maintenance, clean-up, etc. keep them under strict lockdown with access to nothing other than the food and water provided.
That or exterminate them.

Probably neither considering you don’t smoke fentanyl.
