I had 6 weeks for our 3rd child. It was awesome to be able to be there for both him and my wife.
I was on call and had to go do surgery 4 hours after my first was born.
I would definitely say the leave is worth it.

As a father, I'm not taking months of paternity leave. Two weeks tops. There's no need for me to take more than that. Make sure the baby is okay, wife is healed up enough to handle everything on her own then I'd have to go back to work.
ETA: I would like for more to be available in case of complications though. I'm just saying if everything goes smoothly, I wouldn't take it all. I'm not a stay at home person.

Here is something you aren't thinking about. It's a great draw for talent. A lot of companies have a lot more leakage to worry about with the worthless employees they have. If you can't entice employees with good pay and good benefits you won't get good employees. And that comes at an astronomical yet hidden cost.

Our company gives the women 4 months of paid leave and the men 2 months.
I worked with an engineer who went out for leave and when he came back I asked how things were going and he started showing me pictures of the shop that he built while he was out.

If men have no say in whether women bring a child to term or not, women should have no say on whether men take leave off of work or not.

Maternity leave yes but a man doesn’t need months worth of leave when a baby is born.

I took 2.weeks but it was PTO. My wife took 3 weeks.
Big fricking deal.

I'm not gonna shed any tears because some corporation has to pay for maternity leave in order to promote one of the fundamentals of a productive society. Paternity leave (for married parents) should be a thing too

If a company wants to pay, more power to them.

You do realize that all the company is legally required to do, at least in the US, is hold the position…the company does not have to pay the employee while on leave.

I swear to mercy, there are people in this thread that don’t believe fathers are parents.
Look, if you’re a dual-income family, it’s downright stupid for you and your wife not to at least consider using all of your parental leave. If you do it strategically, your kid gets the benefit of having one parent as a 24/7 caregiver for twice as long without it impacting either parents’ career progression.
It’s not 1990 anymore. Sometimes I wish it was but it isn’t. Fathers who are men will do what they have to do for the benefit of their families, not to keep up appearances or impress Mr McGillicuddy at the office.

That’s the point. We have to go back to that.

You think that is expensive? Think about the cost of replacing good employees
Posted on 8/11/24 at 12:54 pm to Deuces
i'm in favor of 6 months for mom, 3 months for dad... i think that's fair and plenty of time for both, if they choose to take that amount of time

If you own the company, sure, fine take.
But I can’t imagine being a W2 employee and only taking one day of paternity leave under the guise that it’s woke to hurt this corporation that you have no ownership of

Paid? Only if the company voluntarily offers it. Otherwise, it's just more free shite.
Paternity leave paid or unpaid for more than a week is crap.
I have multiple kids and one week was more than enough.

The last few years we’ve just happened to do a lot of POS (point of sale) system redesigns for some major international retailers; as an example if that helps any.
Nerdy arse.
But seriously, that’s awesome. Sounds like you invest in your employees and they invest in their work and you all reap the rewards. Good stuff man.
