Small businesses aren't subject to things like FMLA, they wouldn't be subject to parental leave either
According to the proponents, we arent talking about govt involvement or legislation.
It should be insurance, like short term disability. Again, this will not make Progs happy because they want a mandated policy.
If you dont think this is about universal requirements... lolol

You can say that again. We have men on here advocating for SIX MONTHS of PTO to stay home with a baby. You want a business to pay you to hang out with your baby for half a year? We are doomed.

Govt didnt force maternity leave when we did have strong families.
I wonder how that happened? Miracle, i guess.
Plan your leave right, use your personal leave. Sounds reasonable, but since govt isnt forcing something, Progs will not like it.
You nailed it exactly! Way to go, they called those times the best of America.

They can use their personal leave.
Most arent disciplined enough to do that, so they require mandates.

"doom" is not what I think of when I think of companies investing in their employees and their families

Waste of time in the modern day. Everyone is replaceable, there is no loyalty.
Use your leave, so your company doesnt have to make the sacrifice you failed to make.

"There's no loyalty so companies should treat employees as badly as possible"

it's fricking happening. guys just up and leaving work for months at a time is painful for everyone else
My company offers 8 weeks to paternity leave taken within the first year, or one paycheck. I mostly work from home and have a flexible schedule, so I just took the money. Those that take the leave usually do it in 2 week groups spread it throughout the year. Only one person I know just took 8 straight weeks off. Everyone hated him for it and he eventually left the company. He was in grad school and knew he was leaving when he graduated, so he didn't care if he burned bridges taking it all at once.

I did because neither of my companies offered paid paternal when my kids were born.
I took 2 weeks of PTO to help my wife.
I would have taken every single paid day that they offered if they did though.

It's weird that so many in this thread seem to brag or be proud of how little time they took off
It's beyond sad. We complain about fatherhood in other cultures, but it seems many dudes here want that lifestyle as well.
To each his own.

emotional progressive word salad that sounds good but means nothing in practice.

Being that birth rates are declining at an alarming rate and all these pro-business conservatives supposedly have family values, it seems obvious to me that offering leave for parents should be encouraged.
The nuclear family is the foundation for the longevity and prosperity of any nation. Any corporate head who makes far more money than I will ever see that has the gaul to tell me my position within the company is more important than my family can suck the fart out of my arse while I walk out the front door. I work to provide a living. I don’t live for work.
ETA: For the record, 6 months is too much for paternity. I can understand 6 months for moms because they are the ones bearing the brunt of the work and often have a hard recovery, but dad can get back to work sooner.

Not sure, my first job offered no insurance. The one I have now has incredible benefits.
They've increased over time, not decreased.

It doesn't appear that you do, honestly
It's pretty clear if you read it.
Government shouldn't be in the business of mandating paid leave.
Employers are free to do whatever the frick they want. If you want to offer a year off, do it.

I have to use my PTO if I want to see the birth of my child, my employer only offers time off for females, not males
That seems a bit discriminatory if you ask me.
Men and women are equal now so I expect you to get your paternity leave and use it.

investing in your employees is "emotional progressive word salad"?

Agreed
I'd be receptive to a pitch from the right on this. The pitch from the left begins with "those evil companies aren't treating you fairly."

Do you remember when America was great? We didn't have all this type of shite. All this is is more woke shite. Be a man. By the way when America was great dads didn't take this type of leave and raised great kids.
