I have to use my PTO if I want to see the birth of my child, my employer only offers time off for females, not males

Plan your leave right, use your personal leave. Sounds reasonable, but since govt isnt forcing something, Progs will not like it.

No one is talking about a government policy for paternity/maternity leave. OP just asked folks opinion on it.

Secondly, the "plan your leave right" is a pretty naive statement. It's wholly dependent on where you work and their leave policies. Most people in child-bearing years have likely not been in an industry long enough to accumulate 6-8 weeks worth of leave. And most employers have policies on how much leave you can take consecutively. Employers who have "unlimited" PTO typically have PTO caps that are less than 6-8 weeks.

Give it to them....Both parents. And forgive their student loans. If they didn't have any, just pay them some cash. Oh and pay for the medical bills in full. Once they are willing to come back to work, pay for any child care needed, private preferred (want to make sure they are conditioned for homeschooling) Finally (for now anyway) set the kid up for paid private schooling thru HS.

Feel free to quote the post in this thread where someone has said the government should mandate it. We're talking about the discussion here on this board.

Sure, but you're not asking for it to be government mandated. I haven't seen anyone here say it should be at this point.

I'm in favor of it , we need a baby boom to save this country!

Corporations should all offer it, but if it's a law I think it could hurt a lot of small "mom & pop" businesses if they were forced to offer it.

This is how you add more levels of corporatization to your life. Destroy them with barriers to entry. They cant compete with that shite.

Maternity leave should be in your insurance, or as a stand alone option.

Almost all labor laws are inapplicable or heavily modified when dealing with companies with less than 50 employees.

Your mom and pops are typically not effected in nearly the same way as larger companies, except that they may be (even) less attractive to work for.

Small businesses aren't subject to things like FMLA, they wouldn't be subject to parental leave either

what i love about paternity leave is when the dudes leave and then someone else has to do their work for eight weeks

in before - EXPERTS AND MANY STUDIES SAY THIS ISNT HAPPENING

yes, it's fricking happening. guys just up and leaving work for months at a time is painful for everyone else because they have to pull up the slack and it's annoying as frick.
