These are good too.

Unfortunately the 2025 models have a turbo six and no V8 option anymore. And no diesel like the GM trucks. I also think Nissan is going to use that variable displacement design in their new QX which has been very problematic for them in their smaller cars.

At this point I think the 2.7 Liter turbo motors from GM and Ford are okay since they’ve been out for a while and sort of proven themselves, but I wouldn’t trust a brand new one from Nissan yet. Even Toyota is having issues with their turbocharged truck engines.

Stellantis has a 3.0L I-6 twin turbo that is promising. It could eventually be a great engine if they can work the many bugs out. Looks like they are trying.

Of the brand new full sized models, I’d get a gas V8 or the impressive Duramax diesel from GMC/Chevy or possibly try to find a leftover Infiniti QX or Nissan Armada with the 5.6L V8. I’d wait a year before I went with the Toyota/Lexus 3.4L turbo. The Ford 3.5L is probably okay by now but I’d wait for them to redesign the Expedition first.

Per the Car Care Nut, the engine in the GX550 isnt the exact same engine, so he was less concerned about it. Also, based on current recall dates and Toyota’s willingness to replace all of Tundra engines, it would appear they resolved the issue in the last year, which aligns with the GX launch.

I think the Tundra is probably a safe buy now. They seem to have figured out the issue. They wouldn’t spend that much replacing engines if they didn’t have a good grasp on the root cause of the engine failures.

How tall is the GX? I really like those new ones.

The only issue we have with our Yukon is that it is a VERY tight fit in some parking garages. The cross bars come within inches of scraping the ceiling of some of the parking decks we use.

The GX Overtrail comes in about 76”. It’s about 6 inches higher than my Tacoma, but is actually easier to get into.

No other answer but a Scout. It was my first vehicle given to me from my dad, and he got a new Blazer.

Entirely unrelated, but GM has spent a lot on EV development and they are missing out on an opportunity with a mid sized SUV.

A family member just got a brand new GMC Canyon 4x4. I was actually blown away with how well it could pull the trailer. It’s definitely better than my 4Runner in that respect. The tech is much better too.

I wish they made a Jimmy or Blazer off of that chassis. That would be a really cool 4Runner/XTerra style competitor, especially with the AT4x AEV setup.

If they did it would probably turn into more of a Bronco/Jeep competitor than a 4Runner competitor.

But I agree that something more like a smaller/cheaper Tahoe would be a nice addition to GM’s line.

I think there are two problems with that for GM:
1. The Tahoe/Yukon dominates the full-size SUV market in the US and they probably don’t want to cannibalism those sales.
2. They already kind of have a smaller Tahoe/Yukon.. the Acadia. Problem is that it’s a unibody. A body-on-frame, RWD Acadia would be great, but then you’re back to point #1.

Toyota doesn’t really have anything but the 4Runner that I really like. I like the new 4Runner a lot though. The Tundra is growing on me. IMO the Sequoia should have been a lot better. It is a big disappointment.

lol! Different strokes I guess. Toyota has a great selection of SUV’s for every taste & budget. No brand comes close. Sequoia is very nice, why is it disappointing to you?

I was shopping suvs last year ended with X7

If I could do it again, I think I’d still get it since the 3rd row is super useful and the car is super smooth. If I didn’t need 3rd row I’d probably get the Lexus

Do you think it is worth shipping a car from Australia? Assuming it comes out cheaper than just buying one in America (it likely will)

Awesome.

But they are mistaken if they think that people who truly rely on their vehicles for towing or for remote driving in harsh conditions will be comfortable with a BMW engine, especially with such a sparse dealer network. BMW considers things like camshafts and VVT actuators to be maintenance items. Every other manufacturer would consider a replacement of those parts to be the response to a major failure or defect.

They should have used a crate Chevy Smallblock V8 or some kind of Toyota V6 engine. BMW makes good performing motors, but they are not ideal for a truck or off road vehicle.

Z71 Suburban or Tahoe as well as the AT4 Yukon are my favorites.

I didn’t like the Bronco as much as I thought.

The Wrangler Rubicon is awesome and of course the 4Runner is a classic.

ETA: can’t believe I forgot about the GX. That is an awesome vehicle.

Lexus GX is awful on mileage Well ppl that buy those couldn’t care less about mileage

The mileage on a V8 GX isnt any worse than a V8 Tahoe or Yukon. The premium gas sucks but having to never do anything other than routine maintenance probably makes up for it.

Just scouting around a used GX is less expensive than a Yukon or Tahoe w/ a 4x4 V8 also.

I drive an Isuzu diesel box truck for a college job for several years. Those things NEVER stop.

A buddy of mine had a Isuzu Trooper in college…’89 I believe. Again, slow as shite but it could climb a tree in L4 and never had any problems. Not the most luxurious vehicle but I’d love to find one to tool around in….maybe chop the top off.
