Being in a decent size (150 or so) themed walking parade today in the French Quarter is the most fun I had in at Mardi Gras in more that 30 plus years. It was the epitome of every thing real Mardi Gras Day is all about and just about indescribable how much fun it was.

I have a non-local confession. I've been to MG twice but it's been eons ago (92 & 94). Each time I stayed at the RSonesta over the Fri-Sun before Fat Tuesday. I had no idea then and for a few years after parades had routes off of Bourbon. I just thought beads and boobs came down that street. Never saw a parade so just thought I missed them . Spent all my time in bars, on balconies, buying beers from little coveys w Igloo coolers and eating Lucky Dogs. Was a blast. I missed so much but didn't/wouldn't have a clue anyway

It’s an old money krewe. Big fricking deal. There are families in Nola that shite all over those dudes. Who gives a shite?

Be a better Lundi Gras krewe. Orpheus dusted those sorry asses.

I’m prepared to get down voted but back in the day it was hard to beat the Slidell Sunday afternoon parades like Perseus & Dionysus especially with young kids. Haven’t been in a while so it might be crap today.

Bacchus easily. And Thoth. Sunday is a hell of a day.

Saturday was my favorite. I'd catch Iris and Tucks near Lee Circle, grab lunch at Popeye's, and tailgate by the Amtrak station for Endymion.

Yea I couldn’t care less about the throws. I enjoy the satirical float designs of Chaos and the beauty of Proteus, along with the history. Hermes and d’Etat are both great organizations too.

Man, frick Proteus. Bunch of pretentious, stingy douchebags. Every year they throw the same red or white cups and the same light up beads. Complete waste of time. My kids went from “throw me something mister” to “will anyone throw anything?” Float after float… we’d watch them not throw a single thing for over 2 blocks. And their floats are old pieces of shite. I’m done with them. I’ll be sure to get out there for Orpheus only going forward.

Le Krewe D’etat is the most entertaining and my #1 overall

Thoth and Iris are both great krewes and make it fun for the viewers. C

Orpheus has the best floats.

Would be funny if they threw travel sized packages of Tucks pads for hemorrhoids.

Endymion Sucks. Weak marching krewes. Bands kinda suck too.

That’s because they don’t have “marching Krewes”, it’s all marching bands…

I see float parades ALMOST every day that they parade Uptown (only missed the 1st Saturday) and while there are some things good and some things bad about them all, I find myself enjoying the smaller "marching" parade Krewe of Chewbacchus the most the last few years.

Much more intimate, "human scale"; almost everything (including throws) is homemade but very innovative. The artwork is clever and impressive, and the 'floats' are all human powered, either pulled by people or powered by bicycle contraptions. The sci-fi/fantasy/comic book theme is right up my alley, and the parade IS actually VERY family-friendly, unlike Krewe du Vieux a week later.

I also like the fact that it is ONE parade that goes through the Marigny and Quarter; you don't need a compound with tents and tarps, chairs or even an ice chest. I usually walk around along the route and stop and get a cocktail at a bar when I need another.

It's probably a lot like smaller neighborhood parades used to be like long ago.
