Mogollon Rim near Payson, AZ.

2 hours from our house. It's our go to camping spot because it's close by, the sites are huge and don't cost anything. And many times you can get a spot right on the rim with some amazing views. There is also a lake up there not far from where we camp at.

Be honest, this thread was started 100% because you wanted to show off your pics and not because you are interested in our campsites.

I'm heading to GNP end of July. Camping around the Many Glacier area, I'm pumped.

As you should be. Let me know if you have any ideas and I'll try and add onto them.

Not true at all. Look at my post history. If you don't have a favorite camping spot, don't bother posting in here

Pioneer Mountains have some similar spots. Easy drive from Missoula. We went one July 4 and were the only people we saw, for a 4 day backpacking trip. We parked my truck camper at a designated national forest camping spot at trailhead for basecamp. I love Glacier Backcountry but I like being totally alone. Glacier's bc experience is definitely still amazing, especially if you do 8+ days during a less than busy time. But I like being off anyone else's schedule for sites. The griz freak out my wife too, so places like pioneers are an easier sell.

I have an Alpacka packraft I'm taking in the Bob Marshall, so she will not be joining. I have a feeling I'll have some new favorite spots there.

You can drive to the Ocoee and Chattanooga areas of Tennessee in under 8 hours.

Mouth of the Gualala River. Within walking distance you have a beautiful north coast river and a dandy beach. There's no cell phone reception (key). And you sleep in the Redwoods.

There are a few spots with excellent beach or river camping in Louisiana.

Has to be winter though.

Are there any backcountry campsite on trails around Many Glacier? I could deal with a day hike and get back to the main grounds, but I'm worried it's going to be a shite ton of people with little privacy..

Yes, you have a few options around the Many area.

Poia Lake has a backcountry site.
Helen Lake
Elizabeth Lake
Cracker Lake

Among others. But you have to apply for a permit bc they get booked early on.

I've done an over night canoe campout on the black creek in Mississippi that was ok.
What is a good tent camping location on the Alabama or west Florida beach area?

Thanks. I'll check into that today! Definitely wanted to do a day down to Swiftcurrent to hit the Divide and take a peak.

Every bc cg in GNP has a walk-in site set aside, but you have to get there (as in, to a ranger station for permit) early and roll the dice.

Look for national forest campsites for woodland beauty rather than the campgrounds which are filled and crowded this time of the year. TVA campgrounds on the lakes seem filled with RVs from states to the north who moved down for the summer.

Grayton Beach in Florida has tent camping but not a lot of sites that aren't probably filled with RVs.

There used to be a campground in Seal Point, Vancouver Island. You'd wake up, look out over the Strait of Juan de Fuca (without getting out of your tent) and see the Olypic Mountains standing there with the sun hitting them first. There are still a few niches along the strait where you can squeeze a tent in but not easy to get to by climbing over the never cut forest floor.

Newfoundland, Gros Morne National Park, and anywhere in Newfoundland.
