Went to the store with my babysitter, was hungry, took a grape out of the vine of grapes the person in front of us was buying, it was sitting on the check out belt.

Got caught, thought I was going to jail, as like maybe 6-7

For some reason the most lucid memory of being in a store was whenever I separated from my dad and couldn’t find him. I had to be about 3 years old at the time, but I’ll never forget the feeling of panic that I experienced.

My grandparents owned a Piggly wiggly. I would bet for free shitty toys. I thought the manager's booth was like a throne.

Then super store off airline w the movie room that would be a haven for pedos these days.

Personally shopping, shite i can't imagine what I bought. I was a bag boy at Albertsons in 1989/90 ish. I loved the smell of friend chicken and bought a lot of it. Probably mostly that and frozen pizza and burritos and TV dinners.

I stole some pokemon cards when I was like 5, mom dragged me into the store and made me give them to the manager. A good lesson

I think a lot of kids have this story.

When I was 4 I wanted a pack of fruit gum, we were in Eckard's. I just took it and put it in my pocket and walked out with it when we left. In the car I took it out and offered some to my mom and sister. Mom marched me back in the store and got the manager and made me tell him what I did.

I remember the manager being okay with it and telling my mother it was ok. Mom said it wasn't and made the manager get more strict! LOL, she fussed at both of us!

Mom paid the $0.25 for the gun and made me leave it with the manager. It was torn open but unused.

Then at home mom spanked me with her wooden paddle. When dad came home he gave me 2 licks with his belt, And I had to stay inside that Saturday, couldn't watch cartoons and had to do all the yard chores with dad and then inside chores with mom.

Huge lesson for a 4 year old!

The lashes I received are blocked out from my memory. I remember being very embarrassed and afraid that I would be going to jail.

My friend across the street's dad was a store manager for Publix when I was a little kid (6-7yo). This was when Publix was closed on Sundays. He would have to do inventory or receive deliveries on Sunday mornings and take us along. We would run up and down the aisles playing hide and seek in the empty store.

Going to warehouse foods on Greenwell Springs road and sitting in the tv room watching cartoons.

Saving greenstamps from A&P to get a remote control car.

Going to my grandfather’s farm who only spoke French asking him if we could go to the store to get boudin. He said something in French and kept laughing. He ended up butchering a hog making blood boudin and hanging it on a clothes line to dry.

Mom and I picking up Leidenheimer French bread at my grandfather’s grocery store and bringing back to their house to smear butter over it and live large. Joe D’s fried chicken and fresh ham being regular items to pick up during the week. Grandmother making her weekly trip to Callandro’s and her constant need for peas and cantaloupe. We’d get back home and shell peas at the table together. Going to butcher shop near BRHS to pick up cuts of meat with said grandma. Good memories, all of them.

My grandfather watched my brother and me when we were younger before starting school and during summer breaks. He was raised in the south and lets just say he wasn't very PC. He would refer to bananas as monkey pickles. Fast forward to my mom taking me with her to the grocery store and strolling through the produce section. I see bananas and start asking for monkey pickles. There are some black people in the section so my mom is mortified and we haul as out of there.

With my dad, when I was about 6. Shopping for groceries at Winn Dixie on Jefferson Hwy in New Orleans (closed recently, sad) with next stop at butcher shop close by. Great times. My dad left this earth when I was 12.

I remember going to Food Villa on Greenwell Springs Rd by Park Forest & Cortez Grocery on Frenchtown Rd by St Alphonsus. I miss those really small grocery stores.

edit: Mom would bribe me with would a snowball from the snowball stand behind Food Villa for good behavior.

My earliest memory was not having stalls for shopping carts. Shopping carts left in the parking lot and nobody cared.
