I guess you're not familiar with the M line of BMW's. It has a 520hp V8 engine.

But I also am familiar with the fact the X7 is a dainty SUV. It’s a very fine vehicle for a woman to drive daily, and a husband to drive occasionally to dinner or a night out.

Had an 05 645ci. Paid cash for it and paid the equivalent (probably more) of the purchase price in repairs. Replaced transmission, every belt and hose imaginable, $700 coolant pipes, multiple water pumps, untold numbers of ignition coils, multiple oil leaks, coolant leaks, undiagnosable battery drain, active steering malfunction, valve cover gaskets, a/c everything. This is a partial list.

Fun car to drive when not in the shop. Nightmare though.

They are really nice but the maintenance costs once it's out of warranty suck.

I’ve had 2 BMWs a Benz and an Audi.... keep them maintained and you won’t be paying for the repairs.... Ran one up to 155 thousand miles with only $800 in total repair costs

Well enough if you want to lease. Own it? No thank you.

Those German cars are finicky and expensive bitches.

Hope you like $400 oil changes.

What’s the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?

Yeah. But compare the service cost to that of Acura or Lexus.

I got raped trying to service a VW TDI. That was before dieselgate.

Toyotas/Hondas are positively cheap to service by comparison.

I think BMW makes a fine looking car. And I love mercedes...spent some time at the Mercedes plant. But those engineers are in love with themselves. Always on the bleeding edge. Bleeding edge != longevity/reliability

Weird. I must have the unicorn. The wife's convertible 2018 430i drives like new. Only thing that ever went wrong with it, was a coolant hose.

I’ve got a 21 X5M and love it.

Are you going to tune it? You can get some serious power out of that motor! 710hp with just a tune!

But they're Toyotas and Hondas.

I always find these threads on the OT funny. They are very much akin to the "I cut my own grass threads", where people think they're demonstrating moral superiority by spending less money than others.

While I don't have a BMW, I do have an "expensive" car that I got for various reasons of my own choosing (e.g., styling and performance). Yes, it costs more to obtain and maintain than a Toyota, Honda, Acura or Lexus. I'm fine with that for right now.

Luxury cars are massively overrated. You’re better off getting a loaded non-luxury vehicle. Lasts a lot longer, cheaper repairs, and almost all the same bells and whistles.

BMWs are shite. By a ford, they use BMW parts in them.

A Lexus is a much better car, if you are going to buy a BMW you might as well by a Lexus.. Or an Audi.

Yup. True driving machines. The 650 is a wonderful car to drive. But every trip to the shop is four figures.

If you're into leasing expensive vehicles every couple of years, they're ok.

If you want to buy and keep you might as well look good.......if you can make it to the shop.
