I wouldn’t be plugging ANY tire on my vehicle…patch from the inside.
I used to feel the same way until they started all these "rules" for patching punctures trying to get you to buy a new tire. FFS living in BR punctures seem to be a regular occurrence (and they were weekly after the flood in 2016).
Even when the shops would agree to dismount and patch from the inside I have had several of those leak.
I have since resorted to using blackjack self vulcanizing plug patches (black gummy worms) and have never had one fail. Now we don't dive sports cars that go 100 mph but I've used enough of them I'm convinced the worse that would happen is they would leak slowly.
I've also used them on motorcycles during rally's and long trips and never had one fail.
Good quality plugs, proper rasping to smooth the injury, and proper installation go a long way.
Now if the tire is already 90% worn then yes it is time for tire replacement.

Tired don’t last 5 years for me. Probably dry rotted

Said directly after two or three posts where people were at severe risk of death or serious injury due to tire age.
Like I said, I was in a Ranger, the tires still looked great. A bunch of tread, never scuffed a curb beforehand, no indication of anything at all. We were going south on I-10, sticking with traffic around 70 or so, on a summer day with a lot of traffic going both ways. Driver's side rear disintegrated, and the truck sat down on the rim enough that it lifted my front passenger tire off the road. Truck started veering hard to the left, turning the steering wheel did nothing to correct. It pulled into the median/grassy area between the two lanes, with the rear swinging around towards the left. We got ALMOST to the shoulder of the other lane (oncoming traffic), and I really thought we were all about to die. Luckily, it swung enough that we turned sideways and started rolling, and we rolled about 5 times. Thankfully nobody was hurt, and I didn't even have to pay a ticket (I got one, but the cop who witnessed it came to St James Parish with me and testified that he saw the whole thing, and there was no way to avoid it, and it was dropped).
It ain't worth the risk. Make it a leap-year thing, or something, just buy a new set of tires about every 4 years.

G-ddamn. Glad you're OK. That's horrifying.
People don't really understand how bad shite gets when you're doing freeway speeds. It unfolds in three seconds, and you realize you have zero control.
But I bet these boys are spending a lot of money on a boat or fishing every month. Hell no. There was a similar thread about people trying to avoid $30 Bosch windshield wipers a few days ago. You're going to drop $120 at Longhorns, but being able to see while driving for a year is a bridge too far?
People like them are why I speed: to get away from dangerous drivers.

God blessed you that day. But that's a freak accident. The rest of society shouldn't be forced to buy new tires every 4 years. Also, I-10 runs East-West, not North-South.

When you plug the tire take it off the car. Stand over it and really do a good job of the application. Trying to do it on the vehicle is lazy and you don’t want damage the tire more than you have to. Plenty of glue and make sure you get it all the way through wall.

Chemistry doesn't give a shite about your feelings. This is what most of you guys aren't seeing. You don't have a choice in the matter, Sun gonna sun. Give me your plate number, so I can avoid your dumb arse with your 20 year old wiper blades and ten year old tires.

This. People should learn how to do it too, it’s actually not hard and can keep the stuff in your car to do it.
Air pump to add air and soapy water in spray bottle to find leak if it’s a slower one
Crowbar to break the tire seal off the rim and use that to pull tire off.
Remove object that caused flat if still stuck in tire. Take sandpaper and rough up the area around the hole. Apply Vulcan fluid and light it on fire, let burn about 20 seconds. Blow it out. Apply patch and use a roller on it to make sure it sticks good. Use crowbar to put tire back on rim. Apply soap water around inside edge to create seal. Spray starting fluid inside tire, use a grill lighter to light starting fluid immediately. It will pop the tire back on the rim sealed. Add air to proper pressure

Patch > plug, any day.
While I agree with this, my personal experience can't validate this claim. I prefer a patch, but I have never had an issue with a plug, including the 10-20 that I have done over the years. I always keep a plug kit in my vehicle because there have been several times I noticed an issue and have been able to repair it without losing much air. Being able to get right back on the road beats being down for hours every time.

I bet because of liability. If you wreck, your lawyer could go after them. We have many things that hold us back over litigation.

No doubt, but when you get a leak in the middle of nowhere and you are in a pinch a plug will do just fine.

It’s amazing we still have people thinking old tires aren’t a big deal and won’t kill you or someone else. I learned the lesson when I was 18, what’s your excuse?
