I had a remote interview recently via teleconference

My advice is if you can be there in person, be there in person.

It's hard to sell yourself on a phone or screen.

I had only one interview in 1973, was nervous but nailed it, was hired one week later, and retired 43 years from that one company.

Wow, everyone in the OT is great at interviewing. I’m not surprised at all.

I've only really "failed" at one interview, but that was just due to us not agreeing to terms of employment. I wasn't going to agree to move to Virginia for another 6 months, so I pitched that I could either work remotely for the first 6 months or they could fly me back and forth every week for the first 6 months. They didn't agree, but it was no sweat off of my back.

I couldn't imagine working for the same company for 40+ years

Drove in from Dallas in 2001 for an Interview on a Monday as I was ready to move back home.

Sunday night we went to Graces in St Amant
I met and pounded a bigon named Melissa all night long.

It went as expected. Associated Grocers did NOT hire me.

I interviewed for an internship with Exxon in college. It went horribly. It seemed like the guy running the interview had already found who he wanted so he wasn't interested in talking to anyone else but he was forced to anyway.

The guy was incredibly condescending the whole interview, and insisted on asking ridiculous clarifying questions. Like if I said the sky was blue he'd ask "yes but how did you know it was blue?" I could say I looked up and saw that it was blue and he'd say "yes but how did that tell you it was blue?"

At the end of the interview he says he wants to ask some questions that don't influence the decision (yeah right). He asks if hired full time, would I be willing to work anywhere in the world for the company. I figure I'm not getting the job anyway so this is my shot to be an a-hole. I say "can you define 'anywhere in the world?'" He says "literally anywhere, any country" and I say "that isn't clear enough, could you give me some specific examples?" He says Saudi Arabia, Russia, Syria. Earlier in the week the US had dropped some drone strikes in Syria so I said "no sir, I would not move to Syria. Would you move to Syria?" He said no, I thanked him for the interview, got his card, and threw it in the trash as soon as I got home.

I went in with a job offer from the local office and had to pass the final interview with the district manager. He had Tony Robbins books behind his desk. It was so obvious that he was a wannabe. I destroyed him and in a debate about his guy. That caused me to lose the offer for a job. But I definitely kicked his arse in the debate.

I went to an interview and the guy I was interviewing with brought his assistant (I guess she was learning how to interview or something). Turned out it was a girl I saw a few times in college, did some seriously dirty things with (she was a freak) and then never called again.

Interview was very awkward because all I could picture was that girl with my thumb jammed in her a-hole

I am the interview king. Im batting something like 80-85% on getting an offer after a phone or face to face interview. I cant type well or sell myself via resume/application as well as i should but get me in a conversation and i got that shite.

Same here.

I cannot for the life of me get people to interview me. But I'm probably higher than 85% on getting the job offer after I interview. I can only think of one instance in my life where I didn't get the job, and that was after going through three rounds of interviews for a college teaching position. The guy that got the job over me had been a professor for ten years vs. my 3 years of instructor experience. So even then, I don't really feel like I lost that one.

Ha!

I’m older than you...so I pray that I never dated a chick that even crossed paths with you.

True but I figured one of the guys may have mentioned her name. BTW, in my story above, Heavy and Pebbles were with me. Pebbles wanted the bigon, badly.

When I was in high school, I applied for a job in retail, and thought nothing of it. Received an interview and went in expecting to be handed a part-time job after school. Boy, was I wrong.

I was handed a blue pen at the beginning of the interview and told to "sell the pen" to my interviewer (female-no pics)."

Caught completely off guard, I spat out the first thing I could think of...."You want this pen. This pen is the same color as your eyes." You really want this blue-eyed pen."

frick I was autistic. I still cringe about that moment 15 years later.

Nah. Heavy went home. Pebs finally crashed on the couch. This was at my parents house.

I was at a job fair a few years ago and was doing fairly well at each booth.

I got to a booth for a hospital and decided to try an icebreaker. “Hey, do you have any jobs at a hospital that don’t require being a doctor??”

She was not amused. Worked out well though because now I found a job that allows for truck nuts on all of my leased vehicles and I have a Mardi Gras rental for this weekend.
