At least Mississippi has the competence to build dams, create lakes, and give their citizens actual state parks

I can't speak for AL or N LA, but is there anyplace in S LA nicer than Madison MS?

Louisiana wins on economy. It has double the GDP of Mississippi, equal to Alabama, while it has a higher per capital GDP than Bama. Bama has beaches and some nice Appalachian foothills areas, but little else. New Orleans is amazing to visit, but terrible as a place to live. All three are brought down by their northern regions.

What?
If anything Alabama gets most of the hate directed towards southern states from non-southerners
I am of the opinion that Alabama got enough national publicity to last a century during the 60s.
These days we say very quiet except for football season.
Any national movement like Black Lives Matter and the like we just say, "Nah, we're good." which surprised the outside agitators that tried to start something in Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile. Benjamin Crump tried to start something in Decatur a few years back and was politley asked to leave by the locals.
We don't even participate in the barbecue wars.
We keep ourselves to ourselves.
We never get too high. Never get too low. Just quietly go about the business of living.
It's honestly a great place to live because of that.

Has to be Mississippi by a lot. Not much redeemable there.

but the others have Shreveport, Montgomery, New Orleans, Birmingham, etc. You get the picture. The best is Mississippi by a mile. The worst is Alabama.
It is always pretty obvious to me when I see Birmingham lumped in with undesirable cities, that the OP has never actually spent much if any time here. The number of parks and hiking trails around here along with all the incredible suburbs and neighborhoods makes it one of the best places to live in the southeast. I discover new cool things to do around here every week.

I do believe you are letting football impact your judgement.

Mississippi is surging. We're doing our best.

My vote for worst state is Mississippi. I like the beaches of Alabama and the festivals/food/music of Louisiana.

Louisiana, hands down. The best move I ever made was leaving it 7 years ago. It improved my life in every way. The best things out of Louisiana is I-10.

And northern bama. The middle state is basically mississippi. Mississippi gulf coast is their only redeeming quality

People keep bringing up the Black Belt because of it's shittiness, but nobody lives there. You drive through to go to the beach and that's it. It might as well be the Florida Everglades. There's no reason to visit, so we just pretend like it's not there.
Between MS & LA, I have to say MS is worse just because of Jackson & Memphis. I know Memphis is technically in TN, but it feels a helluva lot more like MS than it does TN.

All are elite states imo.
You go to a place, what do you actually care about - natural beauty, friendly people, culture, hospitality and the food. Alabama is absolutely elite in all of those measures. Mississippi and Louisiana are pretty fantastic also

I’ve lived in all 3 states:
My top choices in order:
Alabama
Louisiana (would be my absolute top choice if it had nice beaches)
Mississippi
Most underrated state imho is Kentucky
Most overrated state imho is Tennessee

Can we at least have a bit of empathy for those retards that attended Ole Miss? What a miserable existence. No wonder they act so stuck up and mighty, just projecting at this point…
