Our first house was 1200 square feet; two bed two bath. Wife and I and two dogs and it was perfect for us and had no desire to go larger at the time.

One thing people fail to realize is a 1200 square foot 3/2 will seem significantly smaller than a 2/1 or 2/2. I felt like both our bedrooms in our 2/2 were large compared to the McMansions you see with a ton of bedrooms squeezed into small square footage.

I'm in a four bedroom with only a dog, but I never leave the living room.

I sleep on the couch.

Me and my wife currently live in 1,600 and it feels huge. I'm legit worried it's gonna feel tiny once we put a kid in it.

My house is 1800 but no garage or attic so we are maxed out. I would say if we had a garage and a serviceable attic, this is about the minimum for us.
