Scruffy worked for the ag dept at LSU picking wheat and bagging seeds during the summer in college one year.

Scruffy doesn’t need to go into detail as to why that job sucked.

Second worst was as a dock worker unloading trucks for a tool distribution company.

Nothing more fun than unloading boxes of hammers all day.

First job I had was at Albertsons. Hated every minute of it, but in retrospect I learned a lot about how to deal with people.

Overall I’d had to say the ten months I put in with the maintenance department at Southeast Hospital (the nut hut). The whole atmosphere of the place was depressing as hell. The unhappiest damn group of people I ever dealt with (not the patients). From the top administration down to little ol’ me.

Worked for a sheetmetal company back in the early 70's installing residential duct work in houses and businesses.

Wasn't so bad in businesses, but house installations sucked when working in people's attics in the summer months.

It wasn't much better working under houses installing through the floors when animals were involved. Dogs and cats shitting under houses, flea infestations in warm weather, crawling around on your hands and knees all day really sucked.

Calling random telephone book people for a light bulb manufacturer. I worked on the 2nd story of one of those Florida Blvd buildings.

Quit after 2 days. Did not bother collecting my pay.

Selling floorcleaners -Filter Queen- when I first got out of the military and was waiting to go over seas as a contractor. They had you drive all over the damn place and do demos in ppls homes, I never got home before 8 pm. I worked there about 2 1/2 weeks and in that time I was the number one seller in the region. They had my name on a plaque and everything for the month, telling everyone how impressive it was for a new guy to be doing that well. I remember thinking i'm number one in the region, I'm gonna need a friggan forklift to pick up my paycheck.... Nope! Not even a grand for all of that work. I drove up to the office where they were training new ppl and emptied my car right there in front of them and left.

I worked at an Earl of Sandwich at a mall. 3rd shift in i was told to mop the bathroom, while mopping I asked myself "wtf am I doing here", and just walked out of my shift quietly. Still get a good laugh about it.

Shoveling shite in hog and cattle barns. Hog shite stench stays on you, cannot wash it off. Time is the only thing that gets rid of it!

For one of my early IT jobs, I was put on a 1st line customer support rotation where I had to carry a pager, and my boss promised no longer than 10-minute call backs for all pages. More than once I was paged while showering, or during my commute (pre-cell phone days) and customers raised hell.
About the same time, we went to a fixed cost contract and the money got very tight. So my reward for PITA pager support was typically either no raise or a 1% raise, and no bonus.

I got the hell out ASAP.

Also working with a digging crew for a foundation shoring company was awful. I didn’t last long.

I had a telemarketing job for a few days. It was for a home alarm company. I really tried the first day but I hated it. Calling people at dinner and I was supposed to bring up recent rapes or home invasions and basically scare people into a consultation. I just couldn't do it after the first day and just called my home number over and over to look busy. I was fired after the first week for not generating any consultations.
