Decided to go sit on a deer stand mid day on a rainy day. Thought to myself, I ain’t scared of a little rain. It turned into one of those thunderstorms with dozens of lightning strikes hitting WAY too close to me. A couple of the strikes I didn’t see a bolt of lightning, my entire line of sight was a bright strike. I didn’t know if it would be better to stay, or GTFO. I stayed til it calmed down. Actually managed to see a deer during some of the worst part of the storm.

Another time, I’m riding in my buddies truck, he’s driving and his girlfriend is sitting on my lap
He decides he’s going to pass our other friend who’s driving in front of us. But he decides to pass in the oncoming lane while going up an overpass. Can’t see if anyone is coming. Meanwhile, the other friend speeds up but friend number 1 won’t back down. It turned out ok, but we wanted best the shite out of him after.

The biggest buck I ever killed I couldn't enjoy due to this. Shot a deer right before dark and waited a good 30 minutes. Never saw it coming, just suddenly thundering and loud lightning. I got down and got deer. Had to drag it a good way, and I was panicking the entire time, I was gonna get struck. When I was standing in back of truck, tired, slippery boots due to wet, trying to drag deer into bed, I knew I was about to get struck. Most intense lighnting storm I believe I'd ever seen.

I have been carjacked before. That was oretty crazy danger wise.
I had police dogs come on our train in Belarus and we had about a quarter ounce of weed with us.
I have danced with the devil in the pale moon light a few times.

Jumping out of a plane, under 500', in the dark, into a swamp, with men on the ground intent on making me eligible for in-ground burial at Arlington.

I think I have told this story somewhere here before. Maybe. Well,

When I was like 4 or 5 years old, my Uncle Carl died. This was my mom's brother. He was a very older brother. My Mom had 10 brothers and sisters. As we got ready to head to the funeral home for the visitation, mind you I am 4 or 5 and have never been to anything like this, my Mom takes me aside and says that I need to know that Carl will be there tonight, but it is just his body, he has gone on to Heaven.

Why did she tell me this? Because it was an open casket funeral and Mom didn't want me to get freaked out when I saw Uncle Carl. Here is the thing though. I was 4 or 5 years old and I barely remember meeting Uncle Carl. And, there was also Uncle Leon, Uncle Brother, and Uncle Max, who also were very tall like Carl and looked a lot like him.

So, I am at the funeral home and I see one of my Uncles walking around. I can't believe what I am seeing. I remember what Mom told me and I am totally freaked the frick out. I ran outside and would not go back in.

Later when we were at home, my Mom was asking what got into me. I told her I walked by Carl a couple of times in the funeral home as he was going from place to place and it freaked me out. It was then that Mom finally figured out what was going on.

I am 54 years old and that crap stays with me to this day.

Hit a patch of ice and tumbled sideways down a mountain.

I honestly should be dead.

Not necessarily the scariest thing ever, but it sure did shake me up. This happened like three weeks ago. I had just left Thomasville, AL in the southwest part of the state and was heading straight to Tuscaloosa for another meeting. It had stormed the night before really heavy. But this day was bright and beautiful.

I’d got about 15-20 minutes up the road when I came to a detour at an intersection. The road ahead was closed. So I had to take the detour, which made my Google Maps on my Apple CarPlay go nuts. So I’m going down this road and come to another road closed/detour sign. I’m guessing maybe due to the heavy storms the night before maybe? There were reports of a tornado on the ground. So maybe? Anyway, I have to go down this beat up county road. I noticed I was in Marengo County by now. And I’ve not seen another detour sign for a while now. I’ on Marengo Co Road 36 and Google Maps tells me to turn ahead on this little dirt road named Meadowlark Road. Im leery at first because I’m in the middle of nowhere, haven’t even seen any sign of human civilization for several miles. But the map says it’s only 1.9 miles and it actually looks level and dry, despite all the rain the night before. So I take the chance, I’m running way behind by now from all the detours. I get a ways down this road and suddenly it narrows down to a literal pig trail. And this part of the road is mostly under a tree canopy, so there are a few muddy spots. I notice there is a very large stream off to the left of about 10-15 yards running parallel with the road. Due to to the heavy rain the night before, it’s quite over flooding with gushing brown water. Due to the increasingly bad shape of the rod, I start to put my car (Hyundai Tucson XRT) reverse an backup to the beat up, but at least asphalt, county road 36. But I’ve only got a little way to to go, so I keep going, just taking it easy. I come to this rise in the road, just enough I can’t see over it. As I crest this rise, right in front of me, I see the stream crosses the road here and had completely washed away whatever sort of crossing had been there before. This stream is no-telling how deep but I can tell it’s quite deep, brown rushing water and I’m sliding towards it. And thanks to the mud, I’m not stopping. I do eventually stop with what looks to me to be inches to spare. I immediately throw it into reverse, and by what I can only attribute to the mercy of the Lord, my car backs right back up the rise I just slid down. I had to drive in reverse for what seems forever before I get to a driveway (it went to some barn behind a locked fence) where I could turn around.

I looked on Google Maps that night after I got home. I wanted to see what the hell was supposed to be there. From what I could see it was an earthen bridge with I’m guessing a large culvert for the creek to cross the road. Apparently all the rain had caused the creek (which according to Google Maps is named Michigan Creek) to flood and wash away the earthen bridge.

Here is a snapshot from Google Maps where this Michigan Creek crosses under Meadowlark Road. I’m guessing this creek is normally quite small. But that day it was flooded enough to be about as wide as a two lane highway

An odd thought occurred to me. Had I not been able to stop, the talk around the company would be how I left Thomasville and simply disappeared off the face of the earth. Maybe my car would eventually be found somewhere downstream?

A few years ago, I was flying into Phoenix.

It was the middle of the day and beautiful outside. About 40 minutes left in the flight, KABOOM! the plane moved left to right, and everyone saw a flash.

I pulled out the phone and texted the wife I love her and tell the boys I love them.

A flight attendant was sitting next to us and said she didn't know what it was.

Plane landed and as everyone is getting off you can hear the Pilot saying we were struck by lightning multiple times as people leave.

It was probably the most scared and pissed off I could be at the same time. I couldn't believe that's how I was going to die. Then everything was fine.

I thought something on the plane blew up just like every other passenger.

Now I know planes get struck by lightning all the fricking time.

Hydroplaned on I59 northbound right past the Winslow exit. Not sure how far down the drop was, but took 350ft of chain to pull me out. Someone with a topography app could probably figure it out.

Holding my 18 mo old daughter as she slipped into a coma. Then sitting there helpless as the doctor gave emergency care. Waiting to be told at any second that she was gone.

She survived, barely, but with profound brain damage.

I was stabbed 3 times trying to break up a bar fight in 86. Almost died and have a 7" scar in my back, 2" scar in my inner thigh and 3" scar in the side of my torso. Had to go to court and testify and point out the man that stabbed me just like stuff I saw on TV. Whole experience really messed me up mentally. Before that I would always have my bud's backs and after that I would visibly tremble when people would get into a heated exchange. Took years to get over that. The guy was sentenced 20 years for felonious assault and got killed in the pin.

Last week a dump truck wasn’t paying attention and started to merge into my lane

Similar situation but mine was on a bridge on the interstate when he decided to come over. I had no where to go so I was sandwiched in between concrete and the truck. I floored in and that’s all I really remember, it was too late to brake as I was halfway between truck and trailer. I saw my life flash before my eyes until I woke up. A second or two faster or slower I would’ve been fine.
