I was on airline hwy at the red-light north of I-12. Got rear ended by a white van going 70Mph. Dude was on his phone and never looked up. I was in a suburban and hit me so hard my phone flew from my console out the back window.

When I was 5 my cousin and I were throwing a tennis ball around my grandparents pool. I accidentally fall in on the deep side which is 10 feet. My grandfather is inside but watching us. I was sinking and out of nowhere my grandfather jumped in and pulled me out.
I also work in the ED and had a somewhat healthy guy in his early forties who had a massive heart attack. We did CPR on him for over 40 min and got him back and he ended up surviving. Also had a man in his mid 70’s, extremely overweight and was discharged. A tech was pushing him in a wheelchair to his family’s car. He slumps over and she’s freaking out. We get him on a stretcher and back in the ED. Took me 2 min to crack his sternum. Another 20 min of CPR and get him back. This was on a Monday. He was discharged smiling and waving to ICU staff that same Thursday.

Heading west on the highway with both kids and wife in my truck and a truck towing a flatbed trailer heading east is sliding in the median heading right for us. As he veers to his right the trailer becomes airborn and collides with us just below hood level. A couple of inches higher and it comes right through the windshield killing me and the wife and most likely both my kids in the backseat. Was lucky as hell that I had opted for a truck with a 4" lift. Felt like it was in slow motion despite the whole thing likely taking less than a second with absolutely no way to avoid the collision at 70 mph.

Heading north on I-55, ab to hit Jackson, MS, and construction caused traffic to stop. 18-wheeler carrying a storage tank doesn't see stalled traffic in time and attempts to correct, contacting the rear-end of a white SUV and causing it to do a 180 at 50mph. I see the broadside of said SUV in rear view mirror along with 18 wheeler and immediately brace. After everything, there are legs hanging out of windows, a crushed sedan that the 18wheeler plowed over and pinned against the concrete barricades, and a woman screaming and yelling, pinned in the vehicle, that was burnt alive. 10 total vehicles and 3 fatalities. Had that 18wheeler veered left, instead of right, I probably wouldnt be here.

CNP Mexico Oil Show , Guadalajara , pacific hurricane rain band came in, winds went to 100 miles an hour, and a massive industrial tent that about 3000 people were in all collapsed, I was inside that tent and when shite started to go crazy I made a run for it . 3 people died .
I learned real quick that my emergency response in terms of fight or flight was immediately flight and save my own arse, I felt bad to leave my coworkers behind, but I told myself after I got out that tent I would send some nice flowers. BTW , they were all fine, they got out another way.

Grand Isle when I was 6 or 7. Floating in an old tire inner tube . Swell caught us and tube got caught on an old piling with me still on the inside of the tube . Kept getting bashed against the barnacles growing on the piling . Finally gave up and let go . My older sister who was about 17 reached down and did a blind grab and found my hair . Pulled me back up and at the same time another swell pushed us over the piling and into 3 ft water . I remember not caring anymore about anything but not getting slammed into that post again.
5 years later my 12 year old dumb arse cut right into the path of a truck on my bike. I was coming home from playing baseball all day with friends . Not a care in the world . The bike was an English Racer and somehow got caught on the bumper of the truck instead of getting rolled over. Poor old man thought he had killed me.

Mirror and some stairs.
I've been close several times. Use to routinely paddle Class V whitewater in a canoe and done some free soloing back when trad climbing. But they day I fell down the stairs with a mirror took it all. Something about slicing most everything in your wrist including an artery redefines scary in a bad way.
I had a huge vanity mirror in a bathroom of my apartment in law school fall on my back when I got out of the shower one day. It shattered and sliced me up pretty badly. At first, I didn't notice how bad it was besides my foot not working at all, but thankfully my roommate was there to stop the bleeding and call 911.

I did. The contractors they used had never hung mirrors before and didn't know what they were doing. It was basically a huge mirror fastened to the wall with two nails in the drywall. They settled out of court.

My scariest moments fail in comparison to some of the ones mentioned. In truth, mine are more like adventures, but with a nervous moment. These all happened when I lived in Peru.
The first 2 I had my young family with me.
1. Brakes went out while driving down the mountains in the Andes.. Had to downshift an awful lot, and prayed the brakes to come back on line, to which they eventually did.
2. Truck exploded (blue flames shot out through both fender wells) I stopped as fast as we could and bailed out. This happened in the middle of the night in the desert with no one around. After the truck did not catch fire we loaded back up and continued home.
These 2 times I was by myself.
1. I was preaching in the Andes in the heart of Shining Path terrorist territory one time. As I was preaching, there were 30 ski masked guards with machine guns standing 15 feet behind me to guard us against any attack.
2 driving by myself at 1:30 AM in the jungle and came upon a check point where the “guard” was armed. If he wanted to do anything, no one would have ever found me.

Almost drowned being a deckhand on the MS River. It seemed like i was underwater for 3 minutes, but it was for 10-15 seconds. Happened around Myrtle Grove picking up some barges of coke during high river. Had to go to a therapist for a few years. Still wake up feeling like I'm drowning. Have alot of respect for those dudes who have worked their way up. Wasn't for me after that.
