That number should be around $2200...I’d struggle to find a $500 watch I’d wear.

here's a lot of shite that I can think of spending $10K on other than a watch.

Well you said it was "just showing off" and you seem to disagree with the spending of it, so it sounds like you do....

No point. Watch nerds/snobs are silly, but harmless.

Take for instance a simple stainless steel 16610 submariner date - say you purchased one 30 years ago it would've cost you about $1800 - reasonably cared for can easily bring $7500 and up and it's not even be hard to find a buyer. That handily out paces inflation, and that's just one example.

...23 years ago I bought that watch (currently on my wrist) at Lee Michaels for $3200. You are spot on.

How much did you spend on your spouses engagement ring?

At least you get to wear something you spent big money on.

Rolex's appreciate in value, so you could buy a $7k Rolex and wear it for 5 years and make money on it

If you're looking at a watch as an investment you're doing it wrong. You're better off buying a mutual fund. Unless the particular model that you bought has some historical significance (which it probably doesn't) I really don't think you're going to get someone to pay more for it than a new model. But someone who keeps a closer eye on the markets can correct me if I'm wrong.

You are wrong. There are rolex's that will sell for almost double retail the day you can buy it. But you better be connected to a jeweler in order to get it because Rolexs limits the release of their products. They just sit on inventory.

Why single out Rolex? What is the point of buying anything other than a $50 Casio? No need for a Seiko either.

Rolex is about brand recognition and nothing more. There are better watches on the market.

People hat say this don’t know what they are taking about.

I just think they look good, and are high quality. Some people appreciate craftsmanship more than others. Reminds me I need to get a tune-up

Correct Sir, the average joe is not going to walk into a Rolex ad and leave with a stainless daytona or any other stainless tool watch. The pepsi, batman, daytona and subs will have instant equity. David SW just listed the new batman for 23k, it sells for 9400 at the ad.

Just snagged a Cartier Chronscaph 21, used. About 500 below market.

Wear for the summer then reinvest profit in something else when I sell it.
