What’s the difference between this decade and the last?
Last decade: our President was traveling the world apologizing for America’s actions and lots of people were out of work getting welfare
This decade: our President has our country the best in the world and more people are working than ever before creating the best economy the world has ever seen

Smart phones. Everyone's been too distracted to get anything worthwhile accomplished.

Before the turn of the century, each decade had its own identity. Everything from music, styles, and general mood of the pubic was distinctly different from the decades before or after it. We can see or hear things from every decade from the past at least 7 or 8 decades and immediately know which decade it’s from because they each had their own identity.
But this decade and the last decade before it seem to have nothing to differentiate between the two and in fact other than politics and technology advancements, have no identity of their own at all.
What happened?
clothing, music, movies, etc have all changed from the 2000s
You just got old and are not as aware of any of this anymore
that is what happened

Did you not experience the 'Great Recession' in the last decade or were you just going to school? I went through it as the main bread-winner with a family, working in the real estate development industry. No fun, no job, no money coming in and I was too old to get a 'lower' level job. Luckily, I got a temporary Independent Contractor job with the US Forest Service in the dark days due to an ARRA (American Restoration and Recovery ACT) inspecting maintenance & repairs to facilities. A lot of people consider that 'socialist welfare', this Republican was just glad to have a job then.

Social media. It was there 10 to 12 years ago, sure. But now it is part of every hour of every day.
Pop and hip hop in the mainstream have railroaded rock n roll. White kids from Suburbia try to identify with Drake and Post Malone. My generation loved hip hop but rock was Yuuuuge.
SJWism is your #1 answer. Ferguson, MO changed the entire landscape.

Went downhill when old people found it
once again, old people ruin everything

Show us the difference. And by difference I want to see stuff in this decade being as different from stuff of the last decade as 80s parachute pants were from 70s bell bottoms or 60s Hendrix from 50s Chuck Berry.

Good to see you're aware of your own failings grandpa.

I haven’t been in school since 1988.

Times were tough for sure. Thankfully I didn’t lose my job. But it wasn’t fun. As to what the Great Recession has to do with this thread though I’m not sure.

I was in college in the early 2000s. No college kids dress like we did today. Styles change.
low rise jeans vs high waist jeans
wide leg pants vs tight rolled pants
baggy shorts vs short shorts
2000s pop rock was dominant in music
nowadays pop rap is the dominant genre
I realize none of these will satisfy your argument, but to act like there are no differences between decades is pretty ignorant

I’ve thought about this too and I agree. There are some small differences, but the general style is the same.

So you can’t actually show any real differences so you resort to throwing out a petty insult at me instead.

The Yankees didn't make a world series this decade

The federal government used 9/11 to grow somehow into an even bigger and more monstrous leviathan than it was before that day.
And the internet, which was probably the most important invention of all time, has somehow made us dumber. We have a tool right at our fingertips that could be used for so much more good than what we use it for now. We have billions and billions of sites that we could go to and learn something (I consider this site to be among those, most of the time) yet we settle for SpongeBob memes and trolling. And people want to say that the internet is great for reaching across borders and bringing people together. I’ll argue that isn’t a good thing for the world at large. People are diverse and they coalesce in their same groups for a reason.
In reality, all this information has made us dumber.

2010-2019 May have been the most boring decade in history.
Everything from LSU's loss in the 2011 season national championship game to Nov 2016 election night seems like one day to me.

High-waisted pants
No pop punk or really rock period in the mainstream
Transgenderism
Gay marriage
Legal weed and sports betting becoming more commonplace
Smart phones
The death of comedy movies
Cancel culture going mainstream
